Seriously WTHeck! look If you want to wear a colander on your head, More power two You... Personally It just gets in the Way. But if you want to then say it's A Religion... Seriously... A parody Religion?! That is now Recognized by the State ( of mass)?
I am Agnostic So I walk that fine line of Believing and not. And I live In Massachusetts but the only Time I ever Wore a colander on my head was when I was playing war as a kid. I believe in tolerance but up to a point. If you want to create a Parody To Basically insult the Entirety of Belief by Proclaiming that a Flying Spaghetti monster is a basis of a spiritual belief then In your case... I think you deserve a kick in the head.

I too am Agnostic, I agree its silly, but I take a very different view to you on how mainstream religious groups are entitled to feel.

What gives religious people the right to be offended by what someone else believes in, even if it is a flying spaghetti monster?

Its not like the group specifically mocks any one religion or another with its beliefs. Charlie Hebdo did that and its fine apparently, Monty Python kinda flirts with it with another and that was fine too. The Pastafarians are far less direct with their challenge to orthodox religions.

Its not an anti-XYZ group set up specifically to parody, mock or insult specific religious beliefs, they just simply believe a flying spaghetti monster is as likely to be god as any of the mainstream versions, and I see nothing wrong with that.

People should be free to believe what they want so long as they do not prejudice anyone else in doing so.

Thus I think believing in a flying Spaghetti Monster god is far less morally objectionable than ascribing to commonly accepted mainstream religious institutions' beliefs that opening prejudice and discriminates against people for just choosing to live and enjoy their lives in the way that makes them most happy (think gays, divorcees and even non-believes in general).

The only way anyone could think that the Pastafarians are an insult to religion is if they think the belief in a god is more valid than the beliefs of Atheists and Agnostics, and I find that kind of thought to be highly morally objectionable, and I think that this the entire point of the Pastafarians.

They are highlighting that the true irony to religious discrimination is that while it is illegal to discriminate against someone because of their religious belief, it is not only not illegal, but often positively encouraged for people of faith to discriminate against the beliefs of those without faith, or who's beliefs are not deemed as "officially religious". That is just as bad as the kind of religious discrimination people of faith often complain about.

that's the thing, they don't believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster! They are trying to demand the rights of a religion to prove it's pointlessness.
Basically it's an Atheist who is saying "Your beliefs are so Rubbish, That I will make a total assault on them by conjuring the most ridiculous construct I can think of demand special favor and status just to mock you."
If She really did believe In the Holiness of the pasta. that would be one thing, but she does not. this is simply intended to Troll.
The root of it came as the direct result of a letter Written to protest the teaching of Intelligent design written by a Bobby Henderson in 2005, where he offered the claim of belief in the Flying spaghetti as a equal claimant for teaching and demanded that the teaching of this should farther be done in full Pirate regalia.
Some find that hard to believe, so it may be helpful to tell you a little more about our beliefs. We have evidence that a Flying Spaghetti Monster created the universe. None of us, of course, were around to see it, but we have written accounts of it. We have several lengthy volumes explaining all details of His power. Also, you may be surprised to hear that there are over 10 million of us, and growing. We tend to be very secretive, as many people claim our beliefs are not substantiated by observable evidence. What these people don’t understand is that He built the world to make us think the earth is older than it really is. For example, a scientist may perform a carbon-dating process on an artifact. He finds that approximately 75% of the Carbon-14 has decayed by electron emission to Nitrogen-14, and infers that this artifact is approximately 10,000 years old, as the half-life of Carbon-14 appears to be 5,730 years. But what our scientist does not realize is that every time he makes a measurement, the Flying Spaghetti Monster is there changing the results with His Noodly Appendage. We have numerous texts that describe in detail how this can be possible and the reasons why He does this. He is of course invisible and can pass through normal matter with ease.
well farther claimed a the rise of Global temperatures relates directly to the number of Pirates living.
You may be interested to know that global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters are a direct effect of the shrinking numbers of Pirates since the 1800s.
(Considering that post 2000 the number of actual Pirates actually rose well the global temperature actually stayed about the same, He might want to look back into that one.... That's just me Trolling a troll mind you)

Still in the end The Woman was allowed to wear a Strainer on her head. right or wrong the strainer is there.

Probably correct, but would any court allow such a test to even be considered in deciding whether religious status should or should not be granted or allowed? It would, after all, effectively be a test of faith and belief, and that is a dangerous door to even knock on, never mind open.

They are trying to demand the rights of a religion to prove it's pointlessness.
Basically it's an Atheist who is saying "Your beliefs are so Rubbish, That I will make a total assault on them by conjuring the most ridiculous construct I can think of demand special favor and status just to mock you."

I think you are misunderstanding the entire point - it is not to mock religious belief, but to highlight and challenge the special, favourable status that religious thought and belief are granted above and beyond non-religious thought and belief.

That it is inherently unfair and wrong to elevate the views and beliefs of one person over another's, and make it a hate crime to question the validity of those views, just because one of them said he read in a book that god told him to believe what he believes while the other says he formed his own views and beliefs.

I think it is also to set a trap for the religious fanatics, in that if they do manage to mount a successful legal challenge to overturn the religion status of the Pasta-Fearing-Folk, they would, ironically, have laid the ground work and set the legal precedents necessary to invalidate their own religions.

Besides, why would the ridiculousness or not of someone else's belief (merely claimed or real) have any bearing on your own views or belief?

As free speed crusaders always screech - there is no right to not be offended. Being offended by something someone else believes in (or say they believe in) is a choice you yourself made, so its your problem, not that of the other person for believing (or saying they believe) what he believes.

Now, you can probably tell from my tone that I do not entirely share those views.

I think they have a good point, by take it too far.

There should be an "out of your way" test to whether or not someone has any right to be offended by what someone else says or does.

In my view, someone getting in another's face and business and goes out of his/her way to antagonise and deliberately incite another has taken free speech way too far, and that the person on the receiving end of all this targeted incitement is only right to be offended by it.

On the other hand, someone who goes out of their way to put themselves where they are in a position to be offended by the views, acts or choices of another is also in the wrong.

I do not see how anyone else has any right to be offended by what someone else does to their own bodies, the choices they make on who and how long they wish to share their time and lives with etc, so long as it is done within the privacy of their own homes and does not break any laws.

Under my own moral rule as described above, the Pastafarians are flirting the line certainly, but I think it will be a case-by-case determination of how individuals choose to act which will determine whether I view them as having crossed the line, rather than make a blanket determination on the entire group based on the actions of a few individuals.

In the case of colander head, well, all she is doing is exercising the rights granted to her by the laws of the state. I cannot see how she has done anything wrong.

If she was to stage a protest outside a church or mosque or temple wearing her colander, then she would have crossed the line.

But no one else should have any right to object to how she wants to look on her own driver's license.

With everyone else in the world piling on ISIS after Friday evening’s Paris attacks, al-Qaeda’s Syria faction, Jabhat al-Nusra, is also reporting that they killed multiple leaders of the Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade, a faction with a presence in southern Syria and ISIS ties.

Nusra’s statement emphasized the ISIS link of the slain leaders, naming Abu Ali al-Baridi as one of the slain. The only other

The attack reportedly took place in the Golan Heights.

Though the Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade itself has long publicly denied any formal link with ISIS, Baridi had issued a video of himself pledging allegiance to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, and several other figures in the group are seen as sympathetic to ISIS.

In addition to claiming credit for the suicide bombing, the al-Qaeda statement went on to urge ISIS and its supporters to surrender to al-Qaeda before it is too late. ISIS was initially al-Qaeda’s Iraq wing, but had a very high-profile split with them and the two sides have been at war ever since.

I remember awhile back there was an anti-gun protests at an University in which some adult toys were involved/carried? I hope no one decides to add two and two together.

I was responding to your comment. I didn't read the quote you were responding to. Any which way, they can just say the rule has changed because the modern pirate boats use hot fire (fuel) whereas the pirate ships of olden days use cool wind. You just can't win against them.
