War in Chechnya

Most people in the west have never even heard of chechnya, or whats going on there. all they hear is some occasional news, like when the chechnyan terrorists held a school hostage.

i wonder if americans realize that many of fallujahs insurgents were chechnyans, not just syrians and ex-republican gurad.

Mig leader u ar wrong. most were iraqis bathists, nationalist and islamists however all three tends to drive the insurgency in iraq esp latter two. the US keeps on saying their are foreigners in the area to justify major offensives. for example they said tal afar was full of foreigners but no non iraqis were arrested.

There is no reliable info coming out of iraq thats the truth.

On Chechnya the Russias are not in full control of situation but they cannot do much worse then the 1996 war. the chechens have been a problem for Russia for hundreds of years. i am suprised they would give up more important territories eg Savastapool, kazahstan etc then this small province

I said "many", not "most". of course there wer bathists and islanmists, OR THERE WOULD BE NO INSURGENCY.

all russia can do now is send more and more tanks in, and have them be blown up by mines. cost a lot of money, somethign russias kinda short of...
why do they care about chechnya anyways? its acting like russia's iraq

Migleader, why is Taiwan so important to China?

I live in the west, however I immigrated from China a few years ago, so I think I have a better knowledge of that area than most Canadians (as said before, most of the people here don't even know about what's going on in Chechnya). The Russian government should try something new, instead of sending in more and more troops. Maybe try to negotiate with them, with a mediator. Maybe ask for UN International Court's resolution, etc.

Sorry if u misunderstood i meant to say the Russians and US tend to overplay the role of foreign fighters in their conflicts in Chechnya and iraq. But Foreigners tend to bring the money mostly.

but it gains more legitmacy if they say they are fighting Al qeada or related group. Most are home grown fighters seeking to rid the nation of occupation or gain independence.

Thats like asking the Taliban to negotiate peace with America. not going to happen. As I see it, rogue forces, whether they are nationalis, groups, or private, dont negotiate with their enemies.

i think russias is afraid to lose Chchnya becuase it would show how weak the rssian government has become, and would tempt more ex-soviet republics to try to suceed from russia. it would be a disaster for putin. This is similar to why china is unwilling to let taiwan go.

Because in terms of the United States, that would be like Arizona ceceding from the union. They dont need that kind of stress added to their already very shaky government. That, and the Russians would hate to be exposed as weak. Though now they are just being seen as moronic.

And there are reports of 'caucasians' fighting for the insurgency in Iraq. It isint known if they are Chechan, but it can be suspected.

How would insurgents from Chechnya get to Iraq anyway? The other militants I imagine just cross through Syrya.
