"Valiant Shield" 2007 Pictures

Excellent photos! And look this "attack periscope photo" of one "Arleigh Burke" class destroyer, who was taken by the Captain of the SSN "USS Cheyenne", one of the six SSN "Los Angeles" class who took part in this exercises....

I live in that island so all that stuff is buzzing around me. Yup I hear them all the time.

The B-52s are in a rotation basis. Their home base is somewhere in Texas. They spend four months here, then B-1Bs take over, then another four months, B-2s take over, then the B-52s back again. They said F-22s are coming but I'm not sure. Don't think there is the infrastructure to support that at the moment. Only a Marines F-18 squadron is permanently deployed in Anderson.

There is a big project planned to expand the moor so you can park the carrier inside the bay rather than just shortly inside of it. Adding 8000 marines would definitely tax the infrastructure but the island is more than big enough for that. However it will take up to 2012 to accomplish all that.

Current permanent deployment is the USS Frank Cable, a sub tender, and three subs, USS Buffalo, USS Houston and the USS Corpus Christi, all 688 class. The Buffalo replaced the USS San Francisco when the latter rammed into something immovable underwater.

This year and last year the Chinese government is also invited to watch.

The exercises have been nonstop, since just weeks before the Japanese air force has also been exercising, and back in June, the Kitty Hawk was in last tour visit.

I'd notices that said who six SSN of "Los Angeles"class had participated in the exercise: USS Los Angeles (SSN 688), USS City of Corpus Christi (SSN 705), USS Houston (SSN 713), USS Chicago (SSN 721), USS Key West (SSN 722), USS Hampton (SSN 767), and USS Cheyenne (SSN 773). Only the USS Buffalo and USS Corpus Christi are usually based in Guam....it was really a great exercise..

The USS Houston is also based in Guam. The USS Buffalo is the new guy, replacing the USS San Francisco.
