V22 can carry a F35B/C engine in dismantled form which means C2 grey hound role

This means on a air centric LHA you can replace engines on fixed wing aircraft

It also has a roll on Refueling kit and ground attack kit under development. Bell and Boeing have conceptualized a AEW version as well as a ASW role version, The latter might also be capible of serving as a Ground surveillance bird like how the P8 is being marketed for both sub hunting and JSTARS role. This means that with one exception the V22 could become the Common support Aircraft the navy was looking for years ago. The only missing role being the SEAD role taken by the EA-18G

I could see a US nuclear carrier having, at some point in the future, if the various versions are developed, the following:

10 x V-22 ASW aircraft (replace the old S-3 ASW squadrons)
04 x KV-22 Tankers
02 x V-22 CODS

I could see an LHA/LHD, operating in the traditional role having:

12 x MV-22 Air Assault
02 x KV-22 Tankers
04 x EV-22 AEW

I could see anLHA/LHD, operating in the Escort Carrier role having:

04 EV-22 AEW
08 x V-22 ASW
04 x KV-22 Tankers
02 x V-22 COD

Anyhow...some interesting options for the US Navy and US Marines (And perhaps other nations) if the V-22 is ever fully developed.

I would add to that the Option of a 1-2 AV22 attached to a MEU for special operations support.

The Spanish LHD Juan Carlos I is certifying her flight deck to operate the V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft for the forthcoming international joint-combined exercise Trident Juncture in October and November.

These aircraft come from the US Marine Corps VMM-261 detachment currently deployed in the Spanish Morón Air Base as part of the Special Purpose MAGTF-Crisis Response Africa.

The Osprey conducted 15 landings on the LHD’s flight deck as well as a hot refueling operation. The Spanish flight personnel took the opportunity to familiarize with this aircraft: landing and tie down procedures, refueling and taxiing.

This almost surely means that the RAN will be looking at doing the same for the Canberras.

Well, the MV-22 (and other versions) are really starting to make their presence known...in the US Marines and Navy, but also around the world.

I thought it would be beneficial to list all of the various classes of vessels upon which they have been certified or cross decked to. There are a total of eleven classes of vessels now that I am aware of (and Navy Recognition, Forbin and others, please add more if you know of them...along with pics):

No doubt that this will lead to more MV-22 purchases. It already has in Japan. I expect the Australians will also be looking at this for the Canberras because if the Juan Carlos can do it...they can do it too.
