Well now I see the makings of a historic event here.

All the series of events seems to go to well together. The satillite downing, the US offers Aegis to India, then rumours of the US offering the Kitty Hawk to India and the possibility of huge fighter deal in the offing. This is not only a huge arms deal but it would be a massive strengthening of the US-India relationship.

I smell a conspiracy here. The timing of the satillite downing and this deal along with the rumoured Kitty Hawk deal is just too good to be coincidence.

Perhaps a realization that Pakistan isn't the best of friends due to their instability, and the fact that India can provide a counterweight against China?

It should be a hint that the piece claims that the satellite shootdown was all about selling Aegis to India. Really?

Usually Indian media reports are wildly speculative and you need to find corroborating sources before treating them with credibility.

Don't forget that 6 months ago we went through the same charade. India was about to sign the nuclear agreement... revolution in US-Indian ties... buy F-18... etc. But that all turned to vapor overnight.

I don't think this one will be any different. Some people in India are pushing for this, but the inertia is too great for them to overcome.

If true. US claims of being a nation for peace continues to ring hallow. Why give one side a clear advantage? Pakistan should scrap policy of keeping warheads and missiles seperate. Pakistan conventional deterent would be significant curtailed. Non conventional is now increasingly relied on.

I am disgusted, if true.

Yes I agree with Roger, huge deals like this are often reported but often get massively watered down or killed over time, if they ever were real in the first place. Now this all seems very plausible but the US IIRC has never transfered a super-carrier to foreign control, certainly not for free. Aegis on the other hand has been given to a number of countries. But I'll believe it when I see it.

Timing of this is interesting too, as the PPP just announced it wants limited autonomy for ... ah but I'm straying into politics.

Brazil was offered the Forrestal for free. For the 25 aircraft air wing Brazil wants to operate it was gross overkill but the US did offer it.
Aegis is now considered a "legacy system". It is after all thirty years old and is being eclipsed in some ways by more modern active phased arrays installed on some European ships. The US wants arms clients who will have to depend on the US for their supply support. Look at the example of Croatia. The Croats are on the verge of buying Gripens after examining the costs involved in several current fighters. The US responded to this by offering free Falcon's from the bone yard, all the Croats have to do is pay for their refurbishment, pay for pilot and maintainer training and of course pay for all the supply support. The Falcon is now the aeronautical equivelent of the dime bag!:nana:
