Those systems use a Light MLRS canister mounted on those new tactical trucks.

They are nice and the canister is based on something I worked hard on uring the 1980s, the original MLRS system. with the larger missile canister and the tracked vehicles.

They still use them, and derivatives of them to this day.

The family of missiles they can fire range from massed troops suppression, to massed armor suppression, to long range tactical ballistic missiles for high priority targets.

GREAT systems and glad to see their follow-ons being used.

The military systems I worked on over the years included the A-7E/D Corsair, the MLRS, the S-3 Viking, THAADs, the NSSN (which became the Virginia Class Submarines) and was very involved with the review and improvements at Thiokol brought on by the Shuttle Challenger disaster.

Could I ask why THAAD testing involves a parachuted warhead? Surely an IRBM warhead travels much faster, making it more difficult to intercept.

“A medium-range target ballistic missile (MRBM) was air-launched by a U.S. Air Force C-17 over the Pacific Ocean. The THAAD weapon system located at Pacific Spaceport Complex Alaska in Kodiak, Alaska, detected, tracked and intercepted the target.”
