Oct 11, 2016 WELLTON, Ariz. - Lance Cpl. Pierre Ponce, low altitude air defense (LAAD) gunner with 2nd LAAD, Battery B, demonstrates the use of a FIM-92 Stinger during a ground based air defense exercise at Site 50, near Wellton, Ariz., Oct. 6, 2016. Weapons and Tactics Instructor course 1-17 is a seven week training event hosted by Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One (MAWTS-1) cadre which emphasizes operational integration of the six functions of Marine Corps aviation in support of a Marine Air Ground Task Force. MAWTS-1 provides standardized advanced tactical training and certification of unit instructor qualifications to support Marine aviation Training and Readiness and assists in developing and employing aviation weapons and tactics.

U.S. Army paratrooper assigned to 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade, receives simulated medical treatment while conducting a live-fire exercise as part of Exercise Mountain Shock at Pocek Range in Slovenia, Dec. 5, 2016. Exercise Mountain Shock is a emergency response deployment exercise with the Solvenian Armed Forces focused on the rapid deployment and assembly of forces and team cohesion with weapon systems tactics and procedures. Exercises such as this build a foundation of teamwork and readiness between allied NATO countries.
