New Air Force Tanker Delayed Because It Can’t Refuel Planes

I have not been following this program nor understand the technologies involved. However mid air refueling is not exactly new challenges. It would appear to be me that the KC-135 airframes are getting old and there is a need to switch to a newer platform that is in the KC-46. Why this is becoming a multi Billion dollar problem is inexplicable. The irony is that the Airbus KC-30 is up and operational.

Exact ! in more better tanker carried more fuel, fret and passengers, coz especialy it is more big.

Political decision sadly.. ! for others as sucessor of VC-25, Government helos i undestrand logic but not for it, it is not a problem have a tanker from others countries and in more was planned build in USA.

Finaly the loser is USAF fortunately KC-135 is a true daddy but USAF get 415 ! so despite definitely only about 50 % operationnals* get a sufficient number for missions with also 59 KC-10 the more big tanker.

* In France we have 14 when 7/8 are ops it is good number.

Sadly no sound !

The Missile Defense Agency and U.S. Navy sailors aboard USS Hopper (DDG 70) successfully conducted two developmental flight tests of the Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) Block IB Threat Upgrade guided missile on May 25 and 26 off the west coast of Hawaii. The flight tests, designated Controlled Test Vehicle (CTV)-01a and CTV-02, demonstrated the successful performance of design modifications to the SM-3 third-stage

With enough cooking oil a frying pan might just be as effective. I would guess getting that well fixed won't take too much time.

Air Force Boosts Boeing Contract for ‘Smart Bomb’ Kits to $3 Billion
The Air Force has boosted to $3.2 billion a contract with Boeing Co. for “smart bomb” kits, a move designed in part to replenish a stockpile depleted from U.S. airstrikes against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

The Pentagon publicized the agreement for more Joint Direct Attack Munitions, or JDAM, tailkits on Tuesday evening as part of its daily contract announcements.

The kits convert “dumb bombs” into “smart bombs” with a range of up to 15 miles by adding a guidance device that takes signals from a GPS receiver.

“Contractor will provide JDAM strap-on inertial guidance kits with the capability to receive guidance updates from Global Positioning Systems to increase weapon accuracy for conventional inventory bombs,” the announcement states.

The modification nearly doubles a previously existing contract for $1.7 billion “due to warfighter demand and to replenish depleted inventories” of the U.S. and allies, it states. The work will take place in St. Louis.

The Air Force in December warned its stockpile was running low after firing more than 20,000 bombs and missiles during airstrikes against ISIS and called for additional funding to replenish its inventory of munitions, including JDAMs.

. “We need the funding in place to ensure we’re prepared for the long fight. This is a critical need.”
