US F/A-XX and F-X 6th Gen Aircraft News Thread

Basically this is the same swarm concept that was proposed in the i3 fighter proposal by TDRI of Japan dubbed "TACOM" a New Air-Launched Multi-Purpose (Assault Scout, Electronic Warfare, Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle, Target Drone, etc...) Stealth Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAV) and had already started testing the first stage.

or I should call it a boondoggle? :)

... we need to plan for a manned very high performance fighter aircraft, and it is helpful to call it a sixth gen, aviation is just barely into its second century, no need to rush the future or throw away the past.

... But corporation's like $$$$

... the Independence Day 2 trailer.

my imagination of 6Gen aircraft is the current New Generation aircraft equipped to the standards of 21 century (you know which New Generation aircraft I mean) and actually working (you know which New Generation aircraft I mean)

The problem with your hypothesis is why are patrol planes outside the early warning envelop?
Another is since the six generation plane would be equipped with ultra-stealth how could the on-board radar on a combat plane on patrol detect the stealth plane which has lower power?
The on ground SAM radars are able to detect 450Km while the air patrol plane is only able to detect around 30Km against stealth planes. So if the drones were to able to detect the air patrol via passive radar the air patrol plane would be dead meat before it was able to detect the 6th generation air plane which has a longer arm in radar sensing.
At then end a missile would be heading towards the combat air patrol way before it sees the 6th generation plane coming towards them.

Why might I ask?
Just because it is old doesn't mean it does not fit into the entire system and in fact project have different schedules and goals so they should not be linear.

... because

... so if nothing came up since then ("then" as in a supposedly cool video from 2009, which is like seven years ago), I might think about what you described as of a boondoggle
LOL, You think TRDI is going to announce any and all advances they had made?
Just because you haven't seen anything on YOUTUBE doesn't mean there hasn't been any advancement in the project. In fact with the recent State Secrecy Law in place TRDI has not updated their website for the past year or so.

they would be there to shoot anti-radiation missiles at random (now I perhaps made your day LOL!), pretty much as in

EDIT
F-22 Raptor Thread
...
  • after "harassing" AAMs launches, there would be loitering missiles, yes, intentionally launched "stupidly", making the battle-space ... messy

...
... just not to wait for that mission-truck from Brumby's video with folded hands :)

I agree with SB that the pictorial presentation that you provided is somewhat problematic when you correlate sensor range, standoff HARM threats and CAP axis.

Currently it is estimated that the detection range of a F-35 by a S400 type radar sensor is around 20 NM. It is projected that by 2030, the detection range is expected to double or treble. It is with this in mind that the notion of system of systems was developed as part of the 2030 Airforce's plan to be able operate in dense IADS environment through man and machine teaming. The idea is to inject into the densed IADS using UAV rather than risking manned platform while the latter operates out of the main threat bubble.

It should be noted that while the F-35 is able to operate within current threat bubbles, that will increasingly be more difficult progressively without matching enhanced capabilities. Rather than such development being concentrated in a 6th gen platfiorm, the idea is to distribute the development across systems.

The recent exercise reported from the Tyndall airbase regarding the performance against F-15E's is testimony of the capabilities of the F-35. It should be noted that the F-15E's are probably equipped with APG-82 AESA which is the most modern found in a 4th gen aircraft. The result demonstrated that the F-15E's were rather impotent against the F-35's.
