putin to depart australia early after a less than cordial reception.

could mean the last vestige of russo-west detente has languished?

Outstanding article, simply outstanding, Mr. Abbot, Mr. Cameron, Mr. Harper, and President Obama demanding that Mr. Putin withdraw his weapons and support from the pro Russian rebels, Mr. Obama once again placing responsibility for the shoot down of MH17 firmly on Russia, calling it an atrocity. The Telegraph has a similar article today as well, on Mr. Putin leaving the summit early, after being "confronted" by Mr. Cameron on the Russian involvement in the Ukraine??? so it seems the chickens are coming home to roost??? as I have said all along, when the truth comes out, it will leave little doubt as to whom has orchestrated what?

OT... wow voices form both sides of this actually agree on something! maybe there is hope for this after all.

I think it is more the consistent evaluation of evidence, irrespective of "which side" it comes from. There is little to authenticate these images and no serious commentators are taking them seriously. Neither are these official releases from the RF Government.

It looks like a TV channel allowing itself to be taken in by a deliberate hoax.

Regarding Putin, the reports that he left "early" seem to be presented with more than a little "licence". The implication is that he left the summit cancelling arranged meetings etc. Tass points out that he stayed for the whole summit and completed his scheduled meetings. He did not however stay for the after summit knees up and photo op.

Heading back to Ukraine and a follow up on the Video Miragedriver posted, which included the hit on the BMP.
It appears that this is footage from Peski , one of the villages that maintains Ukrainian positions at the old terminal at Donetsk Airport.

It appears that when Givi's forces were able to seize the Fire Station Building and Watch tower, it enabled the NAF to open the route South of the Airport and to start infiltrating the village. The Ukrainians responded with a massive artillery bombardment on the Fire Station, which levelled it and the NAF acknowledge seven killed and as many injured in the bombardment.

The door however seems to have been opened and the NAF have been able to cross an obstacle and continue their advance to clear Artillery positions from Peski and nearby Avdeyevka. This will of course isolate and make very vulnerable any remaining Pro Kiev forces at the Airport.

not sure what "truth" you are talkin about. all i see is russia being as isolated as it gets since the fall of the USSR. ofc that might not be a good thing for the west because China is the one laughing here

Dutch investigators are beginning to collect parts of MH17 for transport to Amsterdam:
From RT.com:
Removal of MH17 flight debris begins in Ukraine

Work is underway to begin removing wreckage from the crash site of Malaysian flight MH17, downed in July in eastern Ukraine as it was traveling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, Dutch officials say. Investigators are still investigating what brought down the aircraft that killed all 298 passengers and crew on board. The wreckage will be sent to the Netherlands for analysis, the Dutch Safety Board said. Access to the crash site has previously been limited by the ongoing civil strife in Ukraine.
I read on the website of my favorite radio station that they are assisted by the local disaster help organisation SES. They have been given a list by the Dutch organisation for the investigation of accidents of parts that should be retrieved. The parts are taken to a local dump from where they are to be taken by road to Charkov. The operation will take several days, also depending on weather and the security situation.

There was a photo of a part that also seemed to show a thin layer of snow.

are you suggesting that NAF has advanced into avdeevka? that'd be a prettty significant development

Well they it seems certain that they are in Peski and we know Avdeyevka is a major target. I was surprised to learn that they had got into Peski, so I would not now be surprised to learn that a thrust to the north has entered the south of the Suburb.

What I am looking at, is that while the Airport and Peski was held by the Pro Kiev side, that control of access to Avdeyevka was fully controlled by having command over both the M04 highway to its South and the H20 to its West.
If the NAF are able to control key areas of the Airport and occupy disrupt significantly in Peski, then you cut the M04 as it runs from Peski, along the Northern Perimeter of the Airport and to where it intersects the H20 in North West Donetsk.
If you can clear that stretch of the M04, then they you can start to move into the Southern end of Avdeyevka.
I have no idea where the actual line of control is currently in NW Donetsk or who actually controls the H20 in that region. I do know that control of the whole section by Kiev is weakened if the loop created by both roads is cut.

The key sentence in Putin's interview with the German TV channel ARD

But the following quote is, I believe, crucial:

Today there is fighting in eastern Ukraine. The Ukrainian central authorities have sent the armed forces there and they even use ballistic missiles. Does anybody speak about it? Not a single word. And what does it mean? What does it tell us? This points to the fact, that you want the Ukrainian central authorities to annihilate everyone there, all of their political foes and opponents. Is that what you want? We certainly don't. And we won't let it happen.

The Russian original sentence is: Вы этого хотите? Мы не хотим. И не позволим. I personally would translate this sentence "You want that? We don't. And we will not allow this." You could also translate the last part as "we will not permit this". This is not an expression of a preference or a much more vague "we won't condone" or "we oppose". This is a very categorical statement which warns that Russia will proactively prevent such an outcome.

As I said it many times here already: Russia will not let the Nazis overrun Novorussia.

The website of my favorite radio station says today that wreckage of MH17 has yesterday been moved to the railway station of Torez and partly loaded on railway wagons for eventual transport to Charkov. I understand that this way was the preference of the local authorities while the Dutch previously preferred transport by road.
Human remains were also recovered.
