I cannot say if the numbers are accurate...or all of the details.

But I have no doubt that there is financial information about the losses incurred by Russia in the Ukraine, and somewhere that information is documented.

Forbes says that they have come across some of it here to the tune of:

2,000 dead
3,200 disabled

thank you very much for posting Jeff,, it has been very frustrating to have to all those Russian denials of involvement thrown up as fact, while the very clear evidence of Russian involvement was labeled as "flame bait"? Now that the truth has come out, and will come out, it may bring that whole situation into "perspective"? US plans to station the F-22 in Europe, as well as France keeping those two Mistrals, show just how serious this situation actually is.

The situation is much more serious for the people of Ukraine with the economy going down the drain and the country becoming a failed state.

Actually master delft, I would prefer to be a broke living resident of a failed state, than pushing up daisies as a result of "whatever" you prefer to call the little adventure where all those Russian lads ended up dead or wounded? and yes I have warned from the beginning that the Ukrainians were suffering, I suppose God will put the final "labels" on "whatever"?

What is not clarified is the status of the men fighting when they were killed or injured and that is the most critical factor for any subsequent determinations.

It does not seriously challenge the notion of volunteers, the presence of whom has never been hidden or denied. All this shows is the Russian state is not discouraging such volunteering and will pay compensation for those killed or injured that do.
I read the article as supporting the notion that the payments are made outside of the Statye Military Budget and therefore not able to be considered an "active service - KIA" payment etc.

What it does not prove is the presence of Russian Federation Regular formations in the Ukraine, despite constant insinuation otherwise. Credibility regarding the objectivity is rock bottom with constant misleading statements in the media. We have had native eastern Ukrainians labelled as Russians and Soviet Era weaponry described as Russian etc.

I hardly think it unreasonable, when faced with insinuation and deception, in an environment that has been consistently monitored by the best US reconnaissance and surveillance, since before the conflict began, that absence of proof of direct Russian Military Involvement to be taken as proof of absence.

How have you been, SampanViking?

to me, this status is made clear, and anybody can google-translate
военнослужащий
and
контрактник
to whom this document refers to ... I didn't, as I'm aware of who would they be, and I hope you can see I'm careful, as this document might be a fake (by the way I saw it in Ukrainian Internet more than a week ago) ... but it clearly does not refer to somebody called
доброволец
(those are helped by Donbass Veteran organizations, now they are two competing, one established by

recently; plus there are some smaller groups around ... the point here is those volunteers (добровольцы) can't even ask the Russian Government for any compensation since they just left their jobs to play paintball last summer)

It does not seriously challenge the notion of volunteers ...
if the document was true, it would

EDIT
now I checked, I've realized google-translate doesn't work for
контрактник
well :)

I don't want to fight either but sometimes it is necessary. Remember that prelude to WWII in Europe the Spanish civil war. People of many countries, among them US, went to fight fascism in that war and that military experience was valuable when their own country was occupied, as was the Netherlands. BTW Dutchmen who did so lost their nationality and only got it back in the 'sixties while those who served in the Waffen-SS got it back in the early 'fifties.

Highly dubious article . No last paragraph in google cache, and source is ... well ... Ukrainian .

Casualty claims are also suspicious and look inflated, mostly for internal propaganda (yes we did suffer horrendous casualties, but look what we did to those damned Russians ) .

People who volonteer to fight for the Donbass are likely to compare themselves with those who went to fight against Franco in the Spanish civil war.
BTW I lack military training and I'm too old and setelled to think of going to fight myself.
