The same mod fzgfzy who posted about 001A from CJDBY talk about 055 today in his post today. Believe if you will, just pass the information along. :p

1. Work on 055 started March-2015. Modules preparation estimated around 12-15 months.

3. Tonnage is not as big as estimated earlier. Displacement: 11,000+ tons. Fully loaded: 12,000+ tons.

4. Propulsion: 4X XX engines. ( someone ask if XX means QC-280 gas turbine engines, he said: No comment)

And 18-19 052D will be build, Don't ask why odd numbers, he also doesn't know. It will then switch to 052E, plus some of the new techs from 055 will be used on 052E.

If this info is true then:

I think that this means that the picture of the december 2014 construction was fake.

Info about tonnage is now more adequate with the photos from the mockup. I always suspected that that ship didnt have size to have 13-14k ton max. 12+k ton weight is about the size of slava-class.

Im curious about what kind of propulsion it will use. Combination of gas-turbine/diesel engine like the type 052d? (in this case more powerful versions of QC-280 i assume) or something else?

Is this the first time people here saw reference of "type 052E" ? For me it is. I thought that china would get a new design for the future, instead of another iteneration of the 052 platform.

052 still is a relatively new and capable/modern platform. It's going to be the work horse of PLAN for many years to come. Why would China want to spend more time and money to get another new design so soon when they just started churning out the best of the 052C/D and soon E just recently?

I mean look at the USN with the Arleigh Burke-class Flight I, II, Flight IIA, even though there is the more modern Zumwalt class already.

Depends on what the user considers "work starting"

A 11k+ ton standard displacement would probably be approaching 13k tons full, so it'll be interesting to see just how heavy tit ends up being.

Could be COGAG; 4 QC-280s.

We've used the designation before just to refer to an 052D successor... the designation doesn't necessarily mean it has to be based on the 052 hull methinks.

i'd rather have the destroyer to get a new number but that's just cosmetics.
a whole new hull and a wider hull, powered by a new set of turbines is an absolute necessity.

But then... that's really what 055 is for. If it really ends up being a 12.000 ton max displacement, there's little need to have yet another, slightly smaller destroyer alongside it.

Yeah, in the second pair of pictures (which I think was drawn earlier than the first pair) shows other inaccuracies such as the "offset" placement of the mast arrays, and both of them feature other little potential inaccuracies...

Just goes to show that even a supposedly reliable magazine can be inaccurate.

To be fair these CG pics are not new.... I find them on some old posts on CJDBYD forum. Maybe it was done when that full size model of 055 was barely built.

Yes, the second pair of photos were quite old, and the first pair aren't fresh off the press either. I'm just saying that the fact that there are some obvious inaccuracies means we can't use a photo's presence in an "official" magazine as reliable evidence of what may or may not be.

I think there is no official media in China regarding military matters. ;) I am actually serious about it. Put it another way, one cannot trust any Chinese media regarding military matters regardless who owns them. The information in them can be 100% true but we can never be sure because another piece could be 100% false deliberately or not. After all, the commoners do not have the right to know and government is not obliged to tell anything in these matters. :D Reminds me of my first day in the military training camp, the first discipline is "if you are not told, don't ask, don't say". That is probably true in all military, but in China, regarding national secret, it applies to everyone.
