Procurement of those indegenious systems can help for domestic firms and provide jobs.
If they want to cut anything most likely foreign goods procurement from other departments.

The same mod fzgfzy who posted about 001A from CJDBY talk about 055 today in his post today. Believe if you will, just pass the information along. :p

1. Work on 055 started March-2015. Modules preparation estimated around 12-15 months.

2. Contract signed for 4 hulls so far, but the goal is to build 8 hulls of 055.

3. Tonnage is not as big as estimated earlier. Displacement: 11,000+ tons. Fully loaded: 12,000+ tons.

4. Propulsion: 4X XX engines. ( someone ask if XX means QC-280 gas turbine engines, he said: No comment)

And 18-19 052D will be build, Don't ask why odd numbers, he also doesn't know. It will then switch to 052E, plus some of the new techs from 055 will be used on 052E.

12,000+ tons does seem to be on the larger end of the estimates though.

Can't imagine how much more growth the 052 family of hulls could put on a 052E though (maybe an integrated mast).

Those "info" are too specific and the tonnage estimation is a bit too high. Not saying it's fake, but I personally highly doubt the poster's sources are legit. Mostly likely this mod from CJDBY is just trolling.

Speaking of which, does he have previous records of reputable leaks?

Why is a 12,000+ ton displacement considered too high? The only places where I've seen lower tonnage estimates were from state media and that ZZZ guy on the tv show, but in the former case they were pretty much trying to dampen down the expectations of foreign media and intelligence and ZZZ himself is accepted to know jack all and that we should treat his words with little credibility.

The previous consensus was that 12,000 tons would be standard displacement with a full displacement being even higher.

Hey JayBird, if you get the opportunity, try to find out if the 4-8 hulls of 055 is the total planned for this class or if that is just for the initial A batch with more to follow in an optimised follow on build. I personally expect China to operate quite a few more than 4 or 8 hulls of this displacement. Cheers.

Not if these are considered capital ships and they would rather spend their money on a more numerous and flexible fleet of additional 052, 054, and/or 056 instead.

Sure, I don't think anyone expects 055 to be be built in 054A numbers, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't ask whether 4 or 8 055s is too few.
It depends on what the large DDG to DDG to FFG ratio is, as well as how much larger the Chinese navy is looking to expand.

If only 8 055s are built for its entire run, and if we presume that we end up with 24 modern DDGs (052C/D, and some non aegis type DDGs like the Sovs and 051Cs) and 24 modern FFGs (054A), then that is a 1:3:3 ratio between large destroyer, destroyer, and frigate
Post 2020, if they continue building 052Ds or a notional 052E, and continue with 054B/057 production as well, then by 2030 they may well end up with 36 modern DDGs (052C/D/E) and 36 modern FFGs (054A and 054B), keeping in mind that the first 052Cs and 054As will probably only be decommissioned well after 2030. So if only 8 055s are built until 2030 then that is a potential ratio of 0.88:4:4.

Even if 055s are considered capital ships, I think a ratio lower than 1:4:4 is a bit too low, and I'd think a ratio more around 1:2:2 for large destroyers, destroyers and frigates is more balanced.
Say, 16 055s, 36 052C/D/Es, 36 054A/Bs by 2030.

Obviously there are various other ways to play around with the ratios, but the point is that the number of 055s to project should very much be relevant to the number of other surface combatants the Chinese Navy commissions and the ratio of large destroyer/cruiser to destroyer they may want.

Someone ask fzgfzy will the 8 hulls of 055 going to be split between North sea fleet and South sea fleet. And is that mean East sea fleet will not get any 055.

fzgfzy's answer was that the 8 hulls of 055 is the initial planned numbers of the first batch. And we will talk about later numbers only after later.
(先造8条而已,以后就以后再说.)

My guess is 8 probably going to be just the first batch of 055, then it will be 055A,B,C just like 052C,D depending on future needs and budgets of the PLAN.
