BTW it's been discussed and hinted at in this thread but does anyone have info on Chinese CEC capabilities? Are PLAN ships networked to take advantage of multiple sensor and missile carrying nodes?

This is hardly talked about, but there are visible signs of such hardware on the ships. It is not absolute proof but this antenna design appears to be a high speed data type.

The first is a circular caked shaped array, that is generally placed on top of the bridge of the Type 052C, 052D, 051C, and the latest batch of Type 056A. On the Type 054A, the array is placed on top of the hanger. Not all ships of these classes have them, and it appears to be retrofitted to the ships in the order of age --- the oldest ships gets them first as soon as they enter their maintenance schedule. At least four of the Type 052C have them, including 170, 171, 151 and 153. The other two may get them soon. Only some of the Type 052D have them, one of them being 161 Hohhot. Others include 117 Xining. But again, I repeat not all 052D have them. When the ship goes into repairs for whatever reason, it may get added to the ship.

On top of Type 051C recently. This is added as a retrofit to the ship.

On top of the latest batch of Type 056A. This was introduced as a new build, which means they come off the shipyard with it.

I think this unit corresponds to the older AN/USG-2 used with the USN before.

Now this is the first type, there is a second type, which I explain later in the second post.

The second type is a phase array. It looks similar to AN/USG-3.

Four ships have them.

Type 055. This has been misidentified as a radar on top of the 055. Its a phase array but radar its not. You can see which one it is.

Here it is on the 002 carrier. It is on top of the mast just below the Type 382 radar. You can see its the same unit as the Type 055's.

On the Type 075, it has a more novel way of mounting it.

Here it is on the Liaoning. This unit never appeared before until her refit earlier this year where she added new communication and ESM equipment. The units are on both sides of the island, giving a full 360 coverage with four fixed faces.

The US still has a large advantage on this because they had CEC-2 much earlier and every ship has them. Not all Burkes and Ticos have CEC-3, but CEC-3 is gradually being introduced to the rest of the ships when every ship comes back for repairs and maintenance, they were added these.

Finally I want you to take a look at the antennas on the top of the hanger of this Type 054A as it prepares to leave for a Gulf of Aden escort mission. You can see two circular antennas, including the large one I showed you then note then followed by an antenna with four flat sides behind it.
