China need to keep pumping these out
RAN has 3 AEGIS
South Korea has 3 and building another 3
JMSDF has 6 with two more Maya class monsters for a total of 8
That’s 17 x AEGIS in the region
China need 24 x Type 055 which leaves half a dozen for USN
Type 052C/D are too light, not enough heavy loads and only AEGIS like not true blue water AEGIS
Type 055 should be the focus for PLAN

What's wrong with 052D? In a surface engagement (provided both sides has already determined the others location), total number of hulls and the quantity and capabilities of the radars, electronics, and sensors, as well as the capabilities of weapon systems determine the outcome. Number of missile tubes have no bearing on outcome of a single engagement, it only determines how many engagement you can participate in before having to be resupplied and how far you and how long you can operate from your nearest resupply and logistics centers.
If a relatively small country like Korea has 6, then China with 26 times the population, should have 26 x 6 = 156 of these AEGIS ships.
If Japan has 8, then China with 10 times the population, should have 10 x 8 = 80 of these AEGIS ships. If you factor in the threat from out of region invaders, China needs even more.
Chinese navy is still far below its full capability if you consider its huge population. China needs to speed up its ship construction speed, before it can build a big enough navy that is commensurate with its big power status.

So since China has x4 US population it needs 320 Aegis ships!?!?! Well, India better start building fast top since it's at about 2/300 right now.

Economy not population decides how numerically large a military should be.
There’s nothing wrong with the 052s, they’re AEGIS+ type ships in sensor suite and capability, just closer to Type 45 and EU frigates in size and role than the Burke and Tico classes, which the 055 is designed to counter.
Working together with the 055s, they can optimize their more limited capacity for a certain role, either ASW, ASuW or AAW. By themselves, they already have very potent sensor suites, but it’s high networking capabilities means it can take itself to the next level using the 055s even better sensors. Meanwhile, the 055 will benefit from an extra radar that’s very powerful in it’s own right.

If a relatively small country of 50 million people like Korea has the resource to build 6 aegis ships, then we can easily see what the full capability of China is in terms of the amount of resources available.
China has a very big population that can create economy of scale. Each additional ship can be built at a lower marginal cost. The Koreans are using US aegis system, but China has its own indigenous aegis system and that cuts costs even further.
