No hard evidence as of yet, but considering the positioning and the lack of forward and rear arrays that you would expect for a radar system, an EW/ECM function for those flank arrays seems the most reasonable explanation that we've settled on

why is her main gun wrapped up?One of the Dalian's 055 units. Note the cutout for the flank jammer (just forward of the raft launching system), which has its radome removed, thereby giving us a good idea of the shape and dimensions of the emitter array.

it's not uncommon for things like the main gun and ciws to be covered during fitting out. I presume it's because there's no need to expose them to the elements for no reason

When I first clicked into the article earlier, I think there was only Laura Zhou... Interesting unfolding. Did they actually edit that...?

But to say that core component will be soon applied to DDG-level engines is a bit of a stretch.
