Agreed. Chinese shipbuilding industry is highly impressive by any yardstick especially considering these are not rubber stamped shoddy construction vessels but highly sophisticated modern naval warships built to international specifications and standards... at least as far as I’m aware.
These are not Walmart toy quality play things many folks think them to be.

Not anything to do in general with this particular thread, but as ex-military I knew from the very beginning that the PLA and PLAN were going to be different and a stickler for detail and uni-formality. One can simply tell by the simple hand salute which is nothing simple about it and their perfection and pride in their ceremonial open order drill ! The PLA uses the naval hand salute throughout all the branches and every member from the youngest recruit to the oldest general salutes in the same style and perfection. Where else do you see general officers marching and parading in brigade and division formations in front and along with their troops these days ...nowhere !

Chinese shipbuilding industry is already number one in the world in terms of orders and gross tonnage. That would give you a lot of leverage in building a world class navy. State of the art warships, including carriers, are also a great way to advertise for the ship building industry. CSIC and CSSC brings models of existing warships to expos to remind would be customers that they are capable of building high end ships. So all these have a way of financially paying off by themselves.

They are number one by a huge margin. Sure popular media will quote that the PRC is 1st, Korea second and Japan 3rd, but that second place is 7/8th behind in tonnage compared to what the PRC is outputting in tonnage !

Interesting, which branch did you serve? PLA-GF or PLAN? There is no naval salute in PLA, all branches the same, every tradition is from the ground force from 1925.

Wait, are you British? Served Royal navy? I know in UK, the salute is different between branches.

Outstanding.

The Aussies know what they are about and putting the CEC on their new ships will make them all the more capable, particularly when operating with the US, or if the Japanese and Kooreans have it too...with them as well.
