“Though the test railgun is not the final version of the high-tech weapon, its size does fit the 055 destroyer, which would become an invincible vessel once equipped with electromagnetic weapons,” ... etc.:

The current LM2500 does indeed produce around 25MW. However the ones used in the Ticonderoga and Arleigh Burke are older spec and only generate around 19MW.

The 1st interaction is only 16MW (21500 bhp).

BHP is horsepower at the Brake (right at the drive shaft of the GT), it is before gearbox. After gearbox, it is SHP (shaft horsepower), the shaft here is the drive shaft of the propeller which would be even lower (minus 2 to 5 percent).

Now Wiki is right about Tico (CG 47), 4 * LM2500 = 60MW SHP (16MW*4 = 64MW BHP *.95 = 60.8MW SHP)

WIki is also right about AB (DDG-51) has an upgraded version which gives 26,250 BHP = 19.57 MW BHP = 18.95MW SHP => (*4) 74.366 MW SHP (using -5% BHP/SHP)

Anyways, using only GT output and ship displacement (tonnage) to judge the necessity of engine power is wrong. The hull shape (draft, beam and length) is the decisive factor that must be taken into consideration. I find this is missing in the pages of debate. Same tonnage, but smaller cross-section (longer length) will need much less power to push to the same speed.

Also to remember that, IEPS has the deficiency of mechanical to electrical to mechanical conversion, while the mechanical drive has the gear box. Both deficiency is at less than 5%. So there is no way IEPS ship require significantly lower (down to half) power. The only impact on that scale (tens percent) is the hull shape.
