yep 128 is 2^7 it sounds cool. LOL

So is there any value to build large ships that have no radar or any other systems, just 256/512/1024/2048/4096 VLS and accept instructions from a nearby 055? Think one such ship with 4096 missiles can cause problems to a small country?
The value of arsenal ships have been debated many times on this and other forums. There is some preliminary research by PLAN designers on a semi-submersible arsenal ship that has appeared on the internet recently, but we will have to see where this goes.

Are you aware of what the arsenal ship concept is?

For a large fleet with multiple 055s, you have redundant electronics but not enough weapons.

That depends on the capability of the foe one is facing.

Against a more capable foe, having multiple ships with the same, redundant sensors -- with the knowledge that in a high intensity conflict you will likely lose a number of those ships and thus those sensors -- is wise.

well, it is clearly a typo, Jeff is well too good to not know that ..... everybody in this forum should know it was a typo of 052C

To be honest. I feel weird with how PLAN 's ship class name. Why 053 classes preceded the 051 and 052 ones? I'm sure that it's a hull classification name. There were old 050, 051, and 052 that preceded the 053 Jianghu class Frigate? IF so, then there is a probability that they will reuse the 053 hull again in the future.

Not before today. This is a great concept for (the war situation around) Taiwan. PLAN should build at least one ship.

I recalled the debate, perhaps a half of a dozen of pages, which began with

There are some indications that the Navy might have decided to procure or may even be in some stage of building a fairly unique (~20,000 ton?) semi-submersible arsenal ship.

This is still in the fairly early stages of rumour + speculation, but there are a few articles and supposedly there have been a few vague references by big shrimps over the years to something like this but wasn't taken that seriously until recently.
But not much about this is really known at this stage, not even designation, not propulsion or even its real configuration or likely payload. It has been referred to on the grapevine as "常潜式海洋攻搜作战平台"...

Far too early to say this thing is real, but the way some of the rumours and info are unfolding makes me think this should be a space to carefully watch if anything comes of it.

First 051 in 1971, preceded by 1950s Type 07/6607.
First 053 in 1975, preceded by 1960s Type 065.

Lots of militaries do that. Look at US; B-17, B-52 before the B-1, B-2. M-60 before M-1. etc, etc. As long as the designation is unique, it really doesn't matter.
