My own speculation is that the current batch will be 4, and then there will be a pause in construction, and the next batch will include IEP. Incidentally, I am leaving for Taipei tomorrow, then on to Shanghai on 10/1. We shall see what I can see....

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think if 054B does have IEPS, then I think it would be reasonable to speculate the next 055 variant would have IEPS as well.

But the current "first batch" 055s have not been suggested to have IEPS and are COGAG instead.

I suspect if the follow on to 055 would have IEP, then it would likely be a whole new class. The engines could all be located at different places, the structure of the aft hull can be dramatically different.

Can you imagine when you have a two launches of Type 055?

Media will go mad !

Wow

Imagine JNCX launched 2 and DL 2 within 1 year ?? Almost 50,000 tons of warships
Pardon me,but possibly even this case is just the beginning?
Let me see......sorry I could not review the detail probably enough, but I did hear about some ambitious comment from Chinese forum and the most impressive one to me is "You do not even dream about 'the active warship(destroyer or cruiser in this sentence?) after A.D. 2040' when you had not prepared well for the construction of single ship tonnage above 15,000 tons,if not 20,000 or more".

If nothing else happens photo-wise by then, I will be flying into Shanghai Pudong at the end of September to visit relatives and will be booking a window seat in case the plane swings over Changxing Island during final approach. Maybe my iPhone will get to take some photos or I may possibly be able to make a visual confirmation of the size of the rear VLS section.

I've actually been scrutinizing the island in relation to the axis of the airport strips in order to pick the side that is most likely to give a good view, but unfortunately the strips run directly into the path of the harbor where the naval ships are moored so it's at best a 50-50 gamble.
see anything?

Latest progress on the two 055 in Dalian... Unfortunately the cranes are in the way a bit. In the third photo, you can see the bridge modules for both units.
