About navigational draft markers on PLAN ships, I distinctively remember POP3 said they don't accurately correspond to real-world values. He said PLAN does this in order not to keep the ships' actual displacements a secret. The numbers on the draft markers have a particular ratio to the real values so that people in the know can read them and quickly calculate the actual draft.

EDIT: I missed jobjed's reply that said essentially the same thing.

This is not logical, if you really want to hide the draft, why the numbers are linear versus depth

Unless they have taken hull 1 back out of the water, that is hull 2 - about to be launched? Or an old photo.....

Upon further thinking, it might be an old photo of hull #1 before its televised launch. It seems unlikely hull #2 could progress so fast.

I mean the vessel has been launched for months and will be getting ready for trials.

It's not like the whole world is not going to know soon...and that any nation with a satellite doesm't already know.

Quite frankly I am surprised that a pic of it has not leaked by this point.

Exact again... curious and no name even for 002 former 001A we know her name Shandong some weeks, month before she get launched.

For all these mysteries ofc we can compare it with USSR or some countries in the same " style ", closed NK, Myanmar and consorts all pleasant countries

But for USSR more comprehensible at this time less infos no internet etc... different with Cold War in more for China now some problems but no comparison with USSR so really curious.

To consider never USSR doing problems for FON.

But very passionate by military things since very long time not old but i have begin very young to 8 years i have my first mil mag and i remember clearly all it and i have again all mag/books Soviet Military Power etc... but yet for China much less infos for military, approximatives... this country hide since always or almost in fact, fortunately for passionate an exception.

But is certain as fanbois all it do bad publicity for China, and never see " fakes " as we see enough regularly for others countries.

Although there's still no clear aft picture to confirm the number of 055's VLS, but I read some discussion in a chinese forum about a very interesting satellite image dated back on 2017/07/07 showing 3 rows of presumable launching devices ( 4 quad launchers in a row X 3) in DL 055 #1. There also looks like enough space on the port side to add another row, but could be satellite perspective problem).
Not sure if this forum had discussed this photo before, but thought worth mentioning anyway.

There is no reason to leave VLS modules inside the unfinished hull section like that. VLS modules are lowered into the completed hull section; the hull section isn't built up around the VLS modules. For this reason I don't find any credence in the suggestion that those objects sitting in the incomplete hull sections are VLS modules.
