Actually, I think it's likely that the PLAN has a BMD requirement, judging by the tests of its HHQ-26 missile. I just don't think the USN and PLAN BMD requirements are the same. The USN is actually thinking of building a 20' AMDR and putting it on a large hull like the LPD 17 hull. It suggests they are quite concerned about BMD, which is not exactly surprising given the Chinese military has thousands of ballistic missiles and maybe several dozen of them designed specifically to make a love connection with their beloved carriers.

Right, we have a disagreement on the "plausibility" of your alternative power theories.
BTW this eventual radar of 20' confirm Ticonderoga need a true successor ( possible for about 2030 ) despite AB are very good DDG but only it... right now all money spent with 3 Zumwalts !

Maybe I'm naive but personally I think 16-20 MW total output for a >12k ton purpose built air defense cruiser conceived and developed just a few short years ago is not only not implausible but actually quite probable!

Who cares if they have a couple of MW of power 'left over'?

Maybe PLAN intends on putting in a super duper Keurig coffee machine to make use of the extra juice!

Why are we even having this discussion? Lol

... theories.
it's slightly off-topic here, but I think you don't post in US-related threads, so:

why first FIII ABs won't have both S- and X-band radars in the sense as in

The Flight III Burke will be produced in a number of sub-variants I suppose you could call them. The first sub-variant will only have the AMDR-S without the AMDR-X component. The X-band radar will be taken up by the X band SPQ-9B radar, and later ships will replace the SPQ-9B with a fixed multi-array AMDR-X.

The first picture you posted shows the initial Flight III variant with only AMDR-S, where the X band radar is the SPQ-9B which is present on the ship, but no fixed array AMDR-X
?
is it because the X won't be ready yet, or the money, or ...?

Yes, AMDR-X won't be ready at the same time as SPY-6. I'm not sure if it's because of funding or if the USN put higher priority on the S band radar or if they calculated it was more efficient to procure the new ship class in separate blocks.

What's the news about additional modules of Type 055 ?

More than 4?

The latest satellite picture of JNCX from early/mid June (i.e.: before the first hull was launched) doesn't show any obvious modules for a 5th (overall) hull.
However, we all know how quickly that can change.

At DL they are constructing their two 055s concurrently.

Because naval designers aren't as flippant about ship design as "let's just throw a few extra MW in there for gits and shiggles". More MW means more expense, more space, and more fuel. There are non-flippant, legitimate reasons for more power and we have been discussing them. Maybe a PLAN designer does intend on putting in a super duper Keurig machine in the 055 in the future that requires "a couple" MW. In which case that designer should be taken out the back and shot.
