055 DDG Large Destroyer Thread

I wouldn't be so sure of weapons quality track. An UHF array (definitely not VHF) on such a small vertical aperture as on E-2D? Unlikely to offer any sort of vertical precision on its own.

What is vertical precision and how is it related to weapons quality track?

Interesting, it is very plausible that it may be 055.

We can tell it probably isn't an 052D, because the 052D's bow and port anchors are relatively close (or "high") to the bow's freeboard deck, as we can see below:




However, in that picture it appears that the immediate bow section is lacking the at least one deck level that will be expected for the freeboard deck (as we can see that immediately posterior to the bow there are decks which rise up above the current bow), meaning the bow and port anchor positions will likely be lower on this ship relative to its bow, compared with the 052D.

All this is via eyeballing of course, but I do think this ship most definitely isn't an 052D. Definitely could be 055.

Placing a large VSR on top of the helo hangar would defeat the whole point of having an integrated mast, ie, minimizing EM interference. If the X and S band arrays on the 055 form a true dual band radar rather than just separate radars integrated on the combat system level, it should more than enough search capability without a separate long wave rotating array. USN arrived at the same conclusion before Dual Band Radar program was cancelled.

Potentially, but we don't know just what the difference in capability between a "true" dual band radar vs a three band radar actually is.

Also, I wouldn't assume that just because the USN chooses a particular configuration for their needs that their set up will inherently be suitable for the Chinese Navy's needs as well.

As I've written in the last few pages, I am not 100℅ convinced that 055 will have three major radar sets, but I do think the arguments for such a configuration is at least as sensible as the arguments against the configuration.
