    Apparently we are not on the same page. I was only complaining about the notion of "002 being 100,000tons". And to be clear, I haven't seen anyone claiming that PLAN will never get their hand on something bigger after 002.

    @Biscuits,
    apparently I used 003 instead of 002 when I meant 002 due to confusing 001A designation. Apologize for the confusion.

    003 is the next CATOBAR carrier, modules already in production in Shanghai.
    002 is the STOBAR carrier already testing in Dalian.

    May be the fourth, more likely the fifth or the sixth carrier reaches the 100k-marking.

    Most people refer to the STOBAR carrier as 001A though. And the CATOBAR carrier in Shanghai as 002.

    Including this thread lol

    But yes, the first CATOBAR carriers are unlikely to be 100k+ tons simply due to abscence of nuclear propulsion. 80k is a better estimate, based on similar CATOBAR super carriers that aren’t nuclear powered.

    @taxiya

    There are fairly open claims that China will build a nuclear carrier after finishing the carrier in Shanghai. Including those CSIC models.

    Don't believe Minnie Chan - if you post anything from her you could be sure, this is not truth. So by posting Minnie … you know, every else could be, but this is wrong.

    CV-16 and CV-17 STOBAR with 24 x J15 each

    CV-18 and CV-18 CATOBAR with 36 x J15 each

    CVN-19 and CVN-20 with 48 x J15/J31 each

    216 fighter aircraft for the navy

    6 carriers on total

    2 out on patrol, 2 working up and 2 coming back mix and match

    That wold put China in a very good position to challenge international trade routes

    Are J15s so large as to only 48 will fit on a CVN? J31s are significantly smaller, maybe so 1.5 can fit for every 1 larger fighter.

    I think the carrier force would mainly work to support faraway allies & partners. To deter threats to them and provide disaster relief, peacekeeping. Like what the current PLAN deployment in Africa looks like.

    I have to admit that I thought that we would see definitive pictures of the next carrier building by this time.

    I wonder when we shall see it now.

    Hopefully in the upcoming year.
