So basically from March 2015 to mid 2025 China will have built

003 CV EMALS
004 CV EMALS
005 CVN
006 CVN

Why would that rumor be insane? It all depends on how one definites "docked". In all likelihood it means the module we are seeing now being transferred (and possibly but not necessarily joined with another modukm) to a building dock where the final shape of the ship will be made and some day launched into water.

The image on east pendulum site shows some kind of ship inside the closed construction building /slipway where some of the initial 052d were built. Just the bow of the ship can be seen, and looks quite big and pointy. Anyway, it could be just another 052d but even so, previously we had additional 052d built in different places within the shipyard....

The subject had already been discussed here in East Pendulum almost two years ago for days. In our article entitled " ", published on July 31, 2016, elements as diverse as possible but all converging towards the existence of an aircraft carrier program CATOBAR ( Catapult Assisted Take-Off Barrier Chinese Arrested Recovery ) - This ranges from the transformation of the electromagnetic compatibility study platform in Wuhan to the design and testing facilities of two different types of catapult, including the experimental block built at the shipyard in Wuhan. Jiangnan Changxin being near Shanghai.

While , recent photos taken by Shanghai spotters have surprised many observers. And for good reason, the first big block that seems to belong to the 3ᵉ Chinese aircraft carrier is now clearly visible on Changxin Island.

The first analyzes indicate that it would be a large block of the midships, obviously the one that contains a part of the hangar and the machinery compartment.

The block in question is currently stationed in the new extension area of the shipyard. It is 5.5 km² and includes two large closed manufacturing and assembly halls, one 408 meters × 170 meters and the other 289 meters × 170 meters, but other facilities are still under construction. .

This large block, if it actually belongs to the new Chinese aircraft carrier, has appeared well before the completion of the work of transformation of the dry dock in which the building will be built.

We now understand better why several sources close to the Chinese navy and the naval sector in China had spoken at the end of May of the "considerable progress" around this program, which would imply not one but two ships if one believes certain rumors.

During the visit of the Chinese Naval Group CEO CSIC to the Design Office No. 701, which is responsible for the design of all Chinese aircraft carriers so far, the computer image of a fleet of three aircraft carrier, including one with three catapults, was displayed at the back of the meeting room. According to our estimate, the Chinese 3ᵉ aircraft carrier may be put on hold by the middle of next year, possibly aiming for an entry into service around 2022 to 2023, a period in which the Liaoningaircraft carrier could begin its major technical shutdown and that the Liaoning sistership , currently under construction at the Dalian Shipyard, should become fully operational with its airline group.

Aside from the exact timing of its commissioning, two other technical issues around this new Chinese aircraft carrier remain unanswered today - is it conventional propulsion as it was intended, or the vessel will eventually be equipped with nuclear propulsion which is technically feasible for China today?

And, what kind of catapult, steam or electromagnetic, was selected to equip the ship, knowing that two experimental lines have been tested for a few years at the Xincheng Naval Forces training cente

I think that it is too early to conclude that this is a carrier module. We need more evidence, IMO.

Three drawings from a book for Warsaw Pact shipbuilding engineers, which I purchased in the early 1980s. This is how the ideal shipyard for modular construction was introduced. It is easy to see which was taken as a model.

The states of the Warsaw Pact never had the industrial capacity to build such a shipyard. But the Chinese will do it:







The first module of the 3rd Chinese aircraft carrier looks like it is standing high on the ground of the shipyard and not in dry dock.
