Spotted at the Wuhan test site:
Hmmm [IMG] IMO not CV-18/Type 002-related. Looks more like a large LHD, but with an angled deck ??!! [IMG]

PLN maybe LHD mock-up at Wuhan - 7.9.16.jpg

That's just what I expected. The ship will be able to use not just helicopters but also UCAV's and possibly CAS aircraft using a ski ramp, or EM cats, and traps. PLAN doesn't have a Marine Corps that must be prevented from duplicating the Navy's Air Force by means of complicated budget acts.

What makes it more of a large LHD rather than a small carrier? Is there any indication of a well deck?

It's an extended deck but not an "angle deck" in a traditional sense in naval aircraft trap landings for fixed wing aircrafts.

    Interesting.

Noi really a full angled deck per sey.

How big does that measure out to be?

They could paint sort of an angled deck cross there and put on cat on the bow and another on the nagle and have a two cats for a smaller carrier, or even four if it is larger

Or, with the island so far forward, they could make and LHD out of it, with a ski-jump on the front instead if it is as large as I think it might be, have two cats forward on a flat deck..

    As I say, interesting.

Why shouldn't it be CV-18-related? This thing looks huge. Just look at the helos on the flight deck....

    Methinks I see a helipad on the 055 mockup.

You want an angled flight deck?! Here you go:
    Possible CV-18.jpg

The sheer size of this thing combined with the telltale angle of the stern and how the forward port side characteristically sticks out to accommodate the angled deck means this is a carrier mockup, not an LHA/LHD mockup.
