Yeah but do they have any choice? A refurbished and upgraded "30 years old Ukrainian rust bucket" is a lot better than what they currently have now. Sorry to drag this subject, but I'm just saying. The Russian carrier building program is at a bad state right now due to all those economic sanctions that had plagued them.

The Russian carrier program's delays have little to do with sanctions I think. They don't even have modern surface fleets to escort a carrier, so why would they even bother to build or acquire one at this point? It would simply be a huge target.

China will find uses for these carriers. Just looking at the carriers South Korea and Japan have alone something like CV-16/CV-17 are a good way to counter them. Leaving the CATOBAR carriers the task of opposing US carrier forces in the region.

They can turn these old ships into training vessels again. Even when nothing can be done, they can turn them into theme parks and make boatload of cash, as they initially promised.

If they missed April 23, the next date to target would be August 1 for PLA anniversary celebrations.

Any news from the last week or even days? I'm surprised that after a constant flow of news during the last weeks, nothing is heard since Monday!?

Allegedly the most recent image of the Type 002 carrier at Dalian taken on 18 May.

Seems as if not much happened on the Type 002 carrier at Dalian during the last week: it is still sitting on its place, the J-15 & Z-8 mock-ups are gone, ... and the '89' accommodation ship is also still there.

They belong to the ship like the transport boats and the normal parking position is in the hangar.
