Just curious, what's the new structure laid down in the dry dock looks like to you? a big tanker?
Yes, without doubt. Either that or a large container vessel.

There were fanboys who were clamouring at the prospect of consecutive carrier construction despite all the big shrimps denying such rumours, and all official channels' not suggesting anything of the sort. And now we can see clearly that unless China's planning to build a 300k-tonne carrier, the modules next to CV-17 are definitely civilian.

New video of CV 17 construction
The scenes are from *this* video, which @Figaro posted two and a half weeks ago in this thread. Since then I know the reason for the four large openings in the flight deck, through which one could look up to the bottom of the engine room: through them the screw shafts were brought into the ship (look at *this* drawing postet more than one year ago).

I think it should be pretty obvious by now that the extra flight deck space gained by the smaller superstructure of CV-17 will result in no more than an extra helicopter parking space, if even that. Fanbois were wildly speculating that CV-17 would be able to park 2 or 3 extra J-15s compared to CV-16. LOL
Agreed. I though, as I looked at the comparison, that they got one extra space ahead of the island..but I believe they can park an J-15 there if they want.

Aslo a littl more room forward and to starboard of the starboard side forward cat/jet blast...for placing aircraft there while launching. If you look at the two pics, they may have picked up a couple of feet there and forward toward the sponson which appears to allow the flight deck to extend a little further forward there.

Finally, there may be a little extra room for slightly more clearance along the port side for aircraft lined up just off the landing area, or lined up waiting for the wast cat. But not much if any. Other than that, they got a little extra room on the flight deck forward of the island..

HQ 10 installed now Seem like a complete new set of subcontractors are on deck now. The weapon, sensor, navigational, lighting contractor, etc. Notice scaffolding around the superstructure. My estimate 2 or 3 more weeks should be finished. No more than 1 month, in time for mooring test. That is a record speed 5 months after launch

HQ-10 CIWS was installed on 002 CV.

One major surprise with cv-17 is really how small the changes to the island really is. The size of the island on the Kuznetsov/Varyag had been dictated by the soviet practice of providing its carrier with cruiser caliber firepower in almost all respects. Cv-17 apparently did not follow this practice, and yet the island has not really been meaningfully downsized.
