Der Donald really doesn't have any fixed principles, apart from strongman fanboyism and a bizarre 19th century fixation on mercantilism.

He'll throw Tsai overboard the moment Xi offers him something good (Taipei will lose in a geopolitical bidding war 15 times out of ten).

Trump is greedy, he will ask way too much. It's not worth it.

Better let him do him do his thing and let him hanging high and dry.

I am interested in how much more his advisor, Navarro, can think of? I want to see what more he got.

Taiwan itself, too scared to declare independent even if Trump fully support it.

Look at Philippines, it cannot deal with the constant pressure of facing China and it wants to de-escalate.

Taiwan high tech is so dependent on China. It doens't want to fully declare independence.

So, I am not worrying about Trump support Taiwan independence. ..
It goes NOWHERE.

Given that Trump legitimately thinks that 'currency manipulation' is a problem (which is akin to NATO worrying about Soviet railway artillery in the 1980s), it should be a piece of cake for Chinese negotiators, since the implicity quid pro quo suggests Trump will start suspending bits of the TRA.
