Good tribute Jeff
Thanks Asif. Although I could not understand the Chinese in the video, it is clear that he as a dedicated and very capable young man who was dedicated to flying, and who clearly loved what he did.

He gave his life doing what he loved and despite whatever differences, a person who honorably and sincerely wants to defend his country is engaged in something worthwhile and deserving of our respect at that level.

I came across this rare Weibo post the other day stating that the Chinese Naval aviation has begun to experience pain of setting up an advanced carrier-capable fighter force. They have crashed three J-15 and two J-10 in half year with one pilot killed (Zhang Cao) and several others injured. The author use the term "損失慘重" (severe loss) to describe the situation.

This report sounds rather fishy. The J-10 is not part of China's "carrier-capable" fighter force, so why were 2 lost trying to set up this force?

Well, the PLAN does have some J-10s.

I's the use of those losses in connection with the PLAN going through the pain of establishing a advanced carrier capable force that's the problem.

the J-10 is not a part of that, and though those losses are surely painful to them, they are not connected to the Liaoning and the J-15s.

Unfortunately that's part of the learning curve in a known-to-be-costly, partially due to inherent risks, program. Nobody, or no program, progresses perfectly. No pain no gain and there's no point in going half way. Just have to learn from setbacks, honor sacrifices, and keep at it.
