China and the United States are advancing their trade talks with close communication on details, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said Thursday.

"The Chinese side welcomes the U.S. team to visit China for consultation and is open to visiting the U.S. for communication," MOC spokesperson Gao Feng told a news conference.

Gao said the two countries had reached consensus on specific issues including agricultural products, energy and automobiles. "Soybean has always been an important kind of agricultural import from the U.S. given the huge demand in China."

Gao said more details of the trade talks would be released.

Chinese Vice Premier Liu He, who currently heads the China-U.S. trade talks, spoke with U.S. officials on Tuesday, and the two sides exchanged views on implementing the consensus reached by the heads of state of the two countries and on the timetable and roadmap to push forward the trade talks.

is this also a signal to party officials? that they’ll be arrested if they come?

That would be like starting a war. Kidnapping the Huawei's CFO is already the sort of thing that can get uncontrollably out of hand in tit-for-tat actions that can set a chain reaction leading to war.

I disagree on this most foreigner visit china like or has interest there ..its against china interest to arrest them cause west just gonna use this as china threat. If they want arrests someone don't get arrest those who actually work or has interest in china ..
Same thing, most Chinese visit Canada and US have interest there, to visit, study , work. it's against US and Canada interest to arrest them.

I am against when logic only applied to one side.

only if current US admin believe the same thing. Trump admin are full of ppl who see china as threat, and more than happy too see US-China economy decoupled, and its in their interest if China-Canada has a bad relationship.

@Jura , why are you posting the same (or very similar) articles about those 2 Canadians being arrested again and again? We get it: those 2 Canadians were arrested.
Detaining 2 measly Canadians is not enough. To shellshock Canada back to its sense, probably need to arrest far more Canadians and with strong possibility of death sentences.
Let's not get too wild here. The goal here is to scare the Canadians into seeing that truly siding with the US is dangerous. Now I said, "truly," but openly, they must side with the US. No matter how much China boycotts them or arrests their citizens, the final fact is that the US buys 75% of their exports. They must keep the US happy by openly siding with the US; you cannot change that. BUT China can inflict enough pain and fear into them that they "truly" become neutral.

I think China should hold the 2 Canadians and whatever happens with Meng's case, mirror it. If they extradite her and she's sentenced, give these 2 the same sentence.

For example, when the US asks Canada to arrest a Chinese citizen, Canada must say yes or suffer America's wrath. That's open. If they are truly on America's side, they will do it. If they are truly neutral and don't want to anger China, they can pretend that person never came to Canada. If the US already knows they are coming and made the request beforehand, then the Canadians can secretly tip the Chinese to change that person's flight plans to avoid Canada, and any other country that might do America's dirty work. That way the US isn't offended when that person happens to not go to Canada, and won't inflict harm to Canada's economy. That should be the goal. You cannot get Canada to openly tell the US to go to hell because in North America, the US has too much economic clot... for now.

What we're doing now is that, plus punishing the Canadians. For all purposes, I think the Canadians already get the message, but the punishment to satisfy Chinese anger has not fully run its course yet. If you start killing people... well now that takes things into a whole new realm. The Canadians will have a lasting hatred of China and will wholeheartedly side with the US. We don't need that; the US needs that. So punish them, scare them, but don't give them a mental scar they'll hate you for forever. That way, they can learn their lesson so we can move forward a few months down the road.

Not that serious. I think the Chinese leaders have cool head to solve the problems. The American's heads are hot and burning. What I am afraid the most is that their heads are too cool that it becomes cold and at the end they might choose to sacrifice Meng for the so-called "national interest".

Dollar is accepted because it is oil currency, and simply because every nation has a trade deficit with the US. What happens when a country ends up having a trade deficit with the US? They own a lot of dollars. Guess what do you want to do with those dollars? Use it. You cannot use it as in country currency, so you use it as trade currency.

US does not control or guarantee the flow of goods of people on sea and air. The sea lanes are dominated by Chinese, European, Japanese and Korean shipping fleets, companies like Maersk and COSCO.
I agree, but you mean trade surplus with the US, not deficit.

"Not that serious" only at this moment. It all depends on to what extent the saga would escalate to. Sacrificing Meng without any actions from the Chinese leaders will be seen by the Chinese masses as them backing down and being weak.
