ATLANTIC OCEAN (April 24, 2009) Landing craft, air cushion from Assault Craft Unit (ACU) 4 prepare to dock inside the amphibious dock transport ship USS Mesa Verde (LPD-19). Both ACU 4 and the Mesa Verde are participating in the 50th iteration of UNITAS Gold, a two-week multinational exercise meant to foster cooperation and increase interoperability among participating navies. The exercise involves Brazil, U.S., Peru, Mexico, Germany, Canada, Ecuador, Argentina and Chile. GULF OF ADEN (April 17, 2009) A visit, board, search, and seizure team from the guided-missile cruiser USS Gettysburg (CG 64) patrols the Gulf of Aden near a suspected pirate vessel. Get*ysburg is deployed as part of Combined Task Force (CTF) 151, a multinational task force conducting counter-piracy operations to detect and deter piracy in and around the Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean and Red Sea.
