Prior to the ship's arrival to Singapore, Wasp and the31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) provided Defense Support to Civil Authorities in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands following the aftermath of Typhoon Mangkhut, and conducted training in the East and South China Seas. Wasp, the flagship for the Wasp Amphibious Ready Group, with embarked 31st MEU, is operating in the Indo-Pacific region to enhance amphibious capabilities with regional partners and to serve as a ready-response force for any type of contingency. PEARL HARBOR (April 2, 2019) he lead ship of the U.S. Navy’s newest class of guided-missile destroyers, USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000), arrives at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. During the scheduled port visit, Zumwalt will conduct engagements with local officials and organizations. Zumwalt is under operational control of U.S. 3rd Fleet. SOUTH CHINA SEA (April 6, 2019) - The amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) sends over a fueling probe to the guided-missile destroyer USS Preble (DDG 88) in support of a fueling-at-sea during Exercise Balikatan.
