SAN DIEGO (Feb. 23, 2018) Sailors embarked aboard Military Sealift Command hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) say goodbye to friends and family as the ship prepares to depart Naval Base San Diego in support of Pacific Partnership 2018 (PP18). PP18’s mission is to work collectively with host and partner nations to enhance regional interoperability and disaster response capabilities, increase stability and security in the region, and foster new and enduring friendships across the Indo-Asia-Pacific Region. Pacific Partnership, now in its 13th iteration, is the largest annual multinational humanitarian assistance and disaster relief preparedness mission conducted in the Indo-Asia-Pacific. Mercy will make mission stops in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Vietnam while USNS Fall River (T-EPF-4) will visit Yap, Palau, Malaysia, and Thailand. Medical, dental, civil-engineering and veterinary teams will partner with each host nation to conduct civic-action projects, community health exchanges, medical symposiums and disaster response training activities. Additional community relations engagements will occur in each mission stop to enhance relationships and camaraderie with citizens of the host nations.
