The US is showing what it can do in terms of launching and commissioning new vessels.

In 2017, a total of three new Bukres will bve commissioned.

DDG-113, USS John Finn (15 July, 2017)
DDG-114, USS Ralph Johnson (12 December, 2017)
DDG-115, Rafael Peralta (29 July, 2017)

In 2018, another three:

DDG-116, USS THomsas Hudner
DDG-117, USS Paul Ignatius
DDG-119 USS Delpert Black

At least two in 2019 and 2020, and perhaps three in one of those years too.

In addition, you will see two new Zumwalts commissioned between now and 2020, and then of course, the US Navy is commissioning the LCS (and upgrading them), and then the new FFGs, and they will be coming in at the rate of two to four per years during the entire period, with at least one and in some years two new Virginia class subs each year.

So, each year for the next several years, the US Navy will be adding (excluding carriers and amphibious ships), a total of 8-10 new combatants each year.

Yes for this year and next 3 AB after 2 plus 4 LCS before 2 and 2 Virginia so 9 new combatants and 8 after 2017 plus about 1 year on 2 a San Antonio or new America Class for a total of 34, 38 envisaged now 31 i don't include the last Austin, Ponce not used as a Ass Amph Ship.

All new combatants are in addition exept Virginia replace LA and normaly in 2020 1st Tico retired so the number of MSC from 84 in 2016 going for 96 ( actualy 87 ) in 2020 then plus 12 : 10 new AB ( 3+3+2+2 ) + 3 ( +1+0+1+0+1) Zumwalt less 1 Tico modernized get a service life of 40 years in this case the last retired in 2036.

The more low number of Cruisers/DDG was in 2005 about after the 5 first Tico was retired with the 31 Spruance for save money with Terrorism War especialy and with it the number was to about 60 - 65 : 22 Tico + about 45 Burke the more low number for these types since very long time at less WWI.

For LCS in 2020 : now 9 + 3 again this year : 12 + 12 2018 -2020 : total 24 in service

U.S. to haul stricken destroyer from Japan back to U.S. for repairs

The U.S. Navy on Tuesday said it will haul the guided missile destroyer severely damaged in a collision with a freighter in Japanese waters back to the United States for repairs as soon as September.

The collision killed seven sailors aboard the USS Fitzgerald and ripped a hole below the vessels waterline. Naval engineers in Japan have patched up the destroyer but extensive damage that nearly sank the warship means it is unable to sail under its own steam.

"The Fitzgerald may be moved in September but it could be later than that," a spokesman for the U.S. Seventh Fleet said.

The U.S. Navy plans to hire a commercial heavy lift ship to carry the destroyer. In the tender for the contract it has said that the furthest possible journey could be as far as to naval dockyards in Maine on the U.S. east coast.

The collision in the early hours of June 17 with a Philippine-registered cargo ship in waters close to Tokyo Bay resulted in the greatest loss of life on a U.S. Navy vessel since the USS Cole was bombed in Yemen's Aden harbor in 2000. It has sparked multiple investigations by U.S., Japanese and Philippine authorities.

In the first detailed account from one of those directly involved in the collision, the cargo ship's captain in a report seen by Reuters said it signaled the Fitzgerald with flashing lights around 10 minutes before the collision, but that it did not respond or alter course.
