President Putin is in China today and the consequences could mark this visit as one of the big ones.

Top of the list is the 30 year gas Deal, which all indications from both Russian and Chinese media is expected to be signed during the visit. The mega trillion yuan deal (no dollars will be involved) may be the headline grabber, but other announcements from Russia today indicate that there other deals no less momentous likely to be signed.

ITAR-TASS: Economy - Putin: Russia interested in China's participation in developing of Far East

Building on the basic frameworks and physical requirements of the Gas Pipeline, Putin has made it clear that there are significant opportunities for Chinese companies and Capital to develop the Russian Far East and the creation of a Free Trade Zone. Whether this is simply offered as a bilateral measure or through the SCO is something yet to be seen.

This itself is being used a foundation for further strategic co-operation between the two countries
ITAR-TASS: Russia - Russia, China to create group controlling joint strategic projects

The stated projects are interesting in their own right, but such connections between Space Agencies has plenty of potential to quickly morph into areas of intelligence gathering, Integrated Air Defence and indeed Space Defence.

It also fits nicely into the pattern being discussed elsewhere about joint industrial/development projects for AeroSpace/defence Companies.

If one thing comes out of this meeting, it is the prospect of very substantial amounts of Chinese Capital about to start heading north and much of it going into strategic defence related projects and the big push to complete the modern transport infrastructure to fully connect the East and West of the Eurasian landmass and reopen the heart of the continent for trade and logistics.

this visit will be one of the most important and the world is watching. at a time when Obama and company just kicked Russia out of the G8 and kick started the 3rd round of sanctions against Russia we are in the verge of a mega 'mother of all' gas deal between Russia and china. at a time where Obama is rallying the world to politically isolate Russia and economically sanction it, Xi jinping is saying....no thanks we will do the opposite and increase our cooperation with the Russians.

I really do not have time to do more than list the goodies that President Putin on put on the table for President Xi.
Suffice to say, that on a normal news day, any one of these would probably generate a busy thread in its own right.

ITAR-TASS: World - Russia, China urge to develop and introduce rules for information security
ITAR-TASS: World - Russia-China defense cooperation major factor for world security — Putin
ITAR-TASS: Economy - Russia, China to set up commission for investment cooperation
ITAR-TASS: Economy - China’s Great Wall Motor carmaker to build $500 million plant in Russia
ITAR-TASS: Economy - Russia, China to speed container transport by scheduling regular timetable services
ITAR-TASS: Economy - Russia, China plane makers plan rivals for Airbus and Boeing
ITAR-TASS: Economy - Russia’s Sibur, China’s Sinopec to set up petrochemicals joint venture
ITAR-TASS: Economy - Russia, China to jointly develop Udokan copper field in Transbaikalia
ITAR-TASS: Economy - VTB, Bank of China sign cooperation memo
ITAR-TASS: Economy - Russia to boost oil supplies to China refinery — Rosneft head
ITAR-TASS: Economy - First Russian-Chinese bridge to be ready in 2016 — investment fund
Just a shame that continued haggling has meant no announcement yet on the Gas Deal.

In addition to the business deals there are a similar plethora of political/security accords/agreements etc which are likely to set the tone of Sino-Russian diplomatic co-operation in the near future.

ITAR-TASS: World - Russia, China to boost partnership, including military ties — Putin
ITAR-TASS: World - China’s Xi describes Putin’s visit as very fruitful
ITAR-TASS: World - Russia, China to hold joint events on WWII Victory 70th anniversary
ITAR-TASS: World - Russia, China urge to give up unilateral sanctions in joint statement
ITAR-TASS: World - Russia, China to resist interference in internal affairs of other states — joint statement

It will take a while to properly digest and we still have tomorrow to go.

That China and Russia plane company cooperation on building a "modular wide body" 400 passenger plane to rival that of Boeing and Airbus sounds interesting.

wow its going to take awhile to digest all these important deals! what about the news of china's credit card Union Pay? from Asia Time's Pepe Escobar he said because of American led sanctions, mastercard and visa will have to shut out Russia so it was ripe for Union Pay to start its service in Russia. Union Pay is currently the 3rd biggest credit card in the world but it's global footprint is limited just to china so they are desperate to expand into overseas markets.

holy shit they finally did it. after months of speculation from the press and 10 years of stalling and negotiations they finally did it. no wonder that bastard putin:cool: looked so confident when he stepped off his plane. well this is Xi jinping's polite response to Obama's pivot. it's also a message to the world, china don't do sanctions, china is open for business!

Russia Today estimates the price to be 350 per cubic meters. How much has China been paying now?

This $400B deal is a lifeline to Russia. I expect Russia add in other stuffs for China
1)Open up Siberia, and eastern side for joint development in all aspect.
2)Militarily, open up it strategic nuke submarine and bomber tech for China and help China on it engine program.
3)Give all its excessive nuke warheads stockpile to China. from its current 8000 and reduce to 5000.
