The sinking of South Korean Corvette Cheonan

Why would China ever do that, when NK is so effective in putting China's main rivals off-balance?

It's not good for building relations with regional neighbours, which is what the Chinese want. I'll state outright that the Chinese probably view the North Koreans as a major liability, but they know full well if the situation collapses in North Korea, they will have to deal with a major refugee crisis, plus some nasty weapons on the loose that will frankly, haunt them.

If you don't succeed the first time, try and try the spin again.

It seems that a new 300+ page “final” Joint Investigation Group (JIG) report on the sinking of the Cheonan has been released and by their own accounting, the reason for the release of the report is to bolster sinking confidence in the last “final” report they released, on May 20th 2010, and this time signed... but only the United States and South Korea duly signed and “concur with the finding and conclusions of this report, while the Swedish reserves their support to ONLY those aspects of the report that the Swedish team was involved with.

And Now the same mistake used to prove the earlier spin - try a new torpedo diagram again... They got it wrong again

Being nice doesn't win you any friends in international relations. Having lots of leverages, does.

NK is a great leverage for China.

If anything China should provide NK with the same hardware that Pakistan is receiving as an insurance of sorts.
