Thanks for the info guys. I learn something new everyday!
Me too!

Here's an excellent pic of 4 US LCACs about to return to LHD-3, the USS Kearsarge. All four lined up like in a landing pattern for flight ops, except its amphibious ops on the well deck!

Hi Jeff. This is my "fog stripping" corner. I'll strip away the fog/blue filter from some of your pictures in this thread and post them here. I'll leave them here for one week for you to decide if you want to replace your original pictures. After that, I'll delete the "fog stripped" pictures and move on to the next batch.

Note: If I forget to come back once in a while, please be patient. I'm on multiple forums. Also, I debate others on The Economist, YouTube, and lots of places. At times, I lose track of where I am.

Looking at pictures of the well deck and the lines drawn inside, it does seem possible that it's designed to be able to fit 4 LCAC. Although in reality, I kind of doubt we will see 4 LCAC in there. I'm a little skeptical since we got figure from a Chinese magazine that Chinese LCAC is actually larger than American LCAC. And so far, we've only seen one LCAC, so I don't know how many more it can fit. We will see.

I have two blog entries on this

Well, in post # 10, after researching it more and getting some info from other siote...including global security...I now believe that the 071 can indeed carry four LCACs. Whether operationally they will do this or not, will be seen later. In making the well deck large enough to do this, as with the US Navy's Whidbey Island Class (which will carry four US LCACs) they had to sarifice room for more equipment.

Just the same, it's impressive and allows flexability when it comes to being able to run troops up to shore, rapdily, and from a good distance...and supported by air assault at the same time.

Three 071s could launch 12 LCACs per wave.

BTW, tphuang, always like your blog.

carrying 4 LCACs might be an extreme situation.

With some adaptations some Ro-Ros can disembark equipement and troops onto landing ships while in relative calm waters. so 071 might be come LCAC mother ship for a Amphi assault group with a mix of military and converted cargo and ro-ro ships.

¦^??: Re: The PLAN LCAC Landing Craft Air Cushion

Isn't the PLA-N also purchasing Zubrs from Russia?
There are reports and rumors to that effect...but we haven't seen any yet that I am aware of. There's supposed to be, what? Six of them? Been talked about for several years.

I believe the Ruussians have been having trouble building them, and maintaining their own as well.

They are far too big to be embarked on the LPD, or an LHA. They are stand alone, cross the straits on their own kind of craft with a different role than these LCAC which fit into the LPDs. I believe these craft offer much more flexability, more cheaply, and more easily maintained.

.

They don't build it in Russia but in Ukraine. The Russian own the design but built in Ukraine . The lead Zubir LCAC is not going to see the daylight anytime soon because they were mangled by accident in Ukraine shipyard. The sale include technology transfer So if the Ukraine cannot keep the schedule the chinese might as well built it themselves

Imp posted this link in CDF
At the Morye shipyard in ukrainian Feodosia, crane crashed when moving Zubr's hull under construction. 2 dead, 2 injured + hull is damaged.
