China's first seven star hotel to be built in Sanya, Hainan
You won't have to go to Dubai to enjoy seven-star luxury anymore as the world's second seven star hotel — and China's first — is going to be built in Sanya, Hainan. Construction of the 120m high hotel will begin later this year and will be completed by 2011 to be managed under the Fairmont Hotels & Resorts brand. Shanghai Daily tells us more:

Located in the center of Haitang Bay in Sanya City, the hotel will spread over 150 square kilometers and include a luxury yacht club, a golf course and the biggest ocean park in Asia.

It will be among another 20 five-star hotels in the area and will be a major landmark in Sanya when it is completed.

The hotel will be designed by UK-based W.S Atkins plc which designed the world's first seven-star hotel, the Burj Al Arab, in Dubai.

A 150 square kilometer hotel?! Good heavens, that's one-seventh the size of Chongming Island and one-fifth of Singapore. And that's not all. According to the Hainan Daily, Sanya's urban planning authority have announced that the city will build not one, but two seven-star hotels.

Really, we're just a slight tad disappointed they didn't decide to go one up and build the world's first eight-star hotel instead.

My golly. It looks like it will look right over the naval bases.

The PLA really has very little to say about real estate development right over their most "secret" bases.

What does the new star system go up to? I remember back in the 20th century - before 2000 the max was 5 star.

Technically 5 stars is still the max; 6-star and 7-star are just terms for hotels that have facilities beyond what most traditional 5-star hotels have; such as full-size golf courses and yacht clubs.

Re: Liu Xiang out - bad luck!

Some members in our forum had claimed themselves to be this or that, but none of them have good ending.

Welcome to sinodefence forum, ravenshield936! Unless you have hard evidence to prove yourself to be a former 400m hurdler, please save the claim. I don't mean to say that you're fake, but to claim something we must have evidence.

i dont mind letting my identity out this time(normally i dont on the web)
i participated in the BCHS (British Columbia High School) Provincials Championships in 2004
i was DQed cause i succumbed to pressure and inexperience
the times in my city sucked, so i was about to get in. (i came 2nd in Vancouver High School City Finals for 400m at 1.06mins)
i still hold the record for my high school, DTSS (David Thompson Secondary School)
at the event though was my first exposure to the event at provincials level. worse yet, i was in lane 1 so i can see everyone ahead of me. after the launch, even at full speed i'm not gaining any grounds, and when i saw the hurdlers doing their first hurdle, i followed suit, even though i wasn't close enough. i tripped and fell, but got up and continued. rinse and repeat on my injured leg, the right one. i still finished the event, as last of course, but i got the applause of encouragement and sportsmanship from the crowd.
one of my senior. track member also gave me the thumbs up for finishing the race after i fell and humiliated myself terribly.(worse yet that day i invited my fd to watch, only to see me fall twice. but luckily i didnt invite girls:rofl:)
anyways, i think i was in heat 3, lane 1. on the record i should be at #25 or 26, disqualified. what bothered me was that my time at the provincials was worse than when the girls in my school team did their best.

after 2004, i competed again in 2005 for 4x400m at BCHS Provincials Championshps. i've kept my number that i wore. but anyways again i represented DTSS in Vancouver City Finals for the Boys 4x400m. We came first. Sadly my 400m time was the same without improvement for the my entire 3 years: 57s in gr9, 57s in gr10, and 57s in gr11.

anyways to me, competing on the track can be a very nerving experience, especially if performance is only marginal or not at ideal conditions while burdening too great of expectations.

actually i have just found my name

at the 400m hurdles, you'll find my name at the very bottom. if you compare to the other lane 3s, i was behind 7 seconds. that's what 2 falls, nervouness, and unpreparedness can do. if i was at my prime, i definitely can get #20

but yea anyways, yes embarrassingly only high school hurdles. but once again, as having first hand experience, i can only understand only 1/1.6billionth of what he's feeling. i hope he'll be back again in 2012. we'll be cheering
