The Middle Kingdom is inviolate and indivisible

Winston Churchill once said "If Hitler invaded hell I would make at least a favorable reference to the devil in the House of Commons," and that idea is apropos to Xi Jining making sure China stays united and indivisible. My take is Western hawks fantasize about carving up the Middle Kingdom again, starting with Hong Kong and Taiwan, then Tibet and Xinjiang, and finally Inner Mongolia and Heilongzhang. Civilized and rational people all over the world must stay vigilant and not allow those people to wage another Opium War.

China is calling for national unity for all areas it considers Chinese territory.

Speaking at the 150th anniversary of the birth of China's first president Sun Yat-sen, Chinese President Xi Jinping said Friday China will not tolerate any attempts by territories to separate from China.

The president's remarks come as China has suspended communication with self-governing Taiwan until it recognizes the "one China" policy and after China barred two elected officials in Hong Kong from taking office after they expressed anti-China sentiment.

"All activities attempting to split the country will definitely be strongly opposed by all Chinese people. We will resolutely not allow anyone, any organization, any party to split any bit of territory from China, in any way at any time," Xi said at the Great Hall of the People in central Beijing.

Tsai Ing-wen, Taiwan's first female president of the China-skeptic Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), took office in May following a landslide electoral victory over the more China-friendly Kuomintang party (KMT). She called on Beijing to face up to the reality of her government's existence and the island's democracy and said the two sides should sit down and talk.

China insists that Taiwan is part of China.

The Chinese government has criticized Hong Kong independence advocates as separatists and belittled them as a fringe minority. When China’s number-three ranking leader Zhang Dejiang visited the territory in May, he warned that Hong Kong would “undoubtedly rot” if it gave up its “one country, two systems” formula of autonomy, enshrined in the Basic Law.

Each nation has its own unique history and culture, just like each individual have their own unique personalities.

China holds territorial integrity sacro-sanct because of its recent history. The political destabilization of the Qing dynasty began with the ceding of Hong Kong as a result of the Opium War. The 100 years prior to the establishment of the People's Republic could well be described as a history of being carved up by foreign powers, culminating in the Japanese invasion.

The Opium War, the Jiawu War, the Eight Nations invasion, the fact that territorial loss equals national humiliation is carved into the psyche of the Chinese people. With this kind of political culture and historical baggage, it doesn't matter what kind of government rules China, none of them would be able to afford to be seen losing territory.

good point, this has repeated numerous times in the past. Some recent notable includes Ming dynasty's expulsion of the "cross worshiper" right after replacing Yuan because that sect refused its Chinese followers to worship ancestors, a capital crime.

as solarz said, the whole thing is unrelated who is ruling China.
