the last Taiwan made OHP actually needed a Mk13 launcher which had been removed from a retired USN one as they have been out of production for a while. unless any new Taiwan build ones are VLS it probably makes more sense and less $$ to buy some second hand USN OHPs to replace the knoxs.
the real question should be will the ROCN replace the SM-1 with SM-2 on the OHPs.

KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan - The U.S. has announced the sale of new radar upgrades for Taiwan's Indigenous Defense Fighter (IDF). The announcement came during a two-day tri-service military exercise in southern Taiwan from Aug. 24-25.
During the exercise, a Ministry of National Defense (MND) source said the radar deal was part of phase two of the IDF's F-CK-1C/D Hsiang Sheng upgrade program. Specifics of the deal were not released. [...]
In a separate deal, on Aug. 13, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced a $393,538 contract award to New Jersey-based ITT Integrated Electronic Warfare Systems for the sale of an upgrade and maintenance package for Taiwan's AN/ALQ-165 Airborne Self Protection Jammer and AN/ALQ-214 Integrated Defensive Electronic Countermeasure systems. The U.S. Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, China Lake, Calif., is the contracting agency. Work is expected to be completed in August 2015. ...

Well. Don't call that a big deal! :coffee: Since these birds are called "I Don't Fly" aircrafts in Taiwan, with poor capabilities compared to the rest of US/french fleet.
Well Mr Obama, we're waiting for something bigger next time.

I think this could be Washington's subtle way of saying "don't count on more F-16s's"
And with the radar upgrades, it is still a boost to the military capability of Taiwan. Plus it might be a smart move from the US. This doesn't count as a direct sales of weaponries to Taiwan and so will less likely make China having fits and further antagonise the relationship of China and US.
I think this is like applying bandages to a patient's arm when he is infact having a stomach ache.
The main weakness of the IDF is not its avionics, which I believe to be superior to the avionics on the J-10 and J-11B. It is the ENGINE. I do agree that this is a smart money making move by the U.S.
Actually the avionic of the IDF is already pretty old and with no known upgrades to them. Basically it is 80s technology which I highly doubt is superior as compared to China's J-10 and J-11B.

To put things in perspective the IDF's radar the GD-53, is an improved AN/APG-67 with capabilities around the early AN/APG-66 of the F-16A/Bs. The AN/APG-67 itself, was designed for the defunct F-20 fighter and is currently used by the KAI TA-50 and FMA IA 63 Pampa advanced trainers/ight attack aircraft which does not bode very well for its capabilities.
