It looks like Taiwan is doing some reclamation as well when they are building the dock on Itu Aba Island:

What beautiful underwater environments! Hope all of the claimant countries take sufficient environmental protection measures in their SCS construction.

Yeah, they decided to build the dock on the South West corner of the island because the corals and marine life flourish on the north side. Also along the North East side is where sea turtles habitats are located. Ironically, it was because the whole island has been a restricted military zone, much of the island's flora and fauna were left untouched. Unfortunately, the construction of the airstrip back in 2007 had destroyed many of the large precious trees along the central axis of the island.

Wang Jyh-Perng is a reserve captain in the ROCN and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. at Beijing University. Tan Chih-lung is a Navy Reserve Rear Admiral in the ROCN and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. at National Sun Yet-Sen University, Taiwan.

Interesting that the DPP thinks that they'll start building the first of six SSKs in the mid 2020s and finish by 2040. One wonders how underwater naval capabilities will have changed by then.
