Nice link, yes that's the one, the retractable radar is used by the Royal Navy Sea Kings also

I would hope that all PLAN medium lift helicopters are replaced with these newer more modern looking Z-8Y, keep the Z9C it's a good little helo for multi purpose use and build a new heavy lift helo, add to that a naval version of the Z-10 attack helicopter and we have 4 types of helicopters for all of PLAN operations

A Chinese LHD can carry a combination of the lot, anyone know how many Z-8Y have been identified? Is it even in production

Re: WZ-10 thread

Certainly a new class of medium lift helicopter is needed, not only for the PLA but also the PLAN

It would be a good fit for a Chinese LHD, let's hope we see a maiden flight this year which would be a highlight

Don't think that Z15 is same class as the UH-60, plus Blackhawks is so versatile can do so many mission profiles.

Troop load is about dead on. Payload is better for the black hawk but that is adjustable with engines and modifications. Also note the Blackhawk is older And I am counting early Black hawk not the later types.

Now Versatility. The Blackhawk Series of Choppers is one of the most versatile in service (UH,HH,EH,SH,MH,VH...) for sure but it's not unique. The Eurocopter AS365 is a chopper used the world over Even by the PLA who operate the Z9 derivative. AS365 is smaller then the Blackhawk but critically for this used in almost all of the same roles. Air Assault, Utility, Scout, ASW,ASuW, SAR and VIP. the Critical factor are the outfitting. The Z15 may not be as versatile as the Blackhawk or the Dolphin today but it has the potential as a Medium Transport.

This plus the Age of the Z8 is why I feel that if Z20 is a reality. It's targeted to the Large medium lift class like the Super Hawk or better. now their are a lot of possibility the end configuration could be anything from a stretched Z15 to a massive modernization of Z8 to a total Clean slate.
