As to the anime aesthetic, it is as capitalism is to the CPC , a tool to achieve something much greater.
Bothers the shit out of me, but true. I still can't stand the ones without Chinese voice overs though. Feels like they're just helping the Japanese with their soft power.
Yeah the trailer kind of jaw dropped me like the first Black Myth: Wukong trailer did..
I hope we see more black myth wukong soon.

True, but China hasnt developed a distinct style yet that resonates with China and the global market aswell.

And Hoyoverse is a market driven company, and the global market demands anime armpit feet rn, so they have behave and go with the flow if they want to reach global audience's money.

Five element fog hill has a more distinct yet radical style for backgrounds, with inkwash and watercolour aesthetics, but I think it is too radical for global audiences.
Characters still look more anime-ish tho.

Also try to translate 2D style watercolour inkwash to 3D, it's super hard.

Same thing with JP VA, Hoyoverse adresses all the western otakus with renowned JP VA. CN VA has a lot of talents too, but given the rampant sinophobia rn, Hoyoverse does best not specially promoting CN VA atm.

I dont like this either but we have to wait 2-3 more years to see CN games becoming more popular and more Chinese in their DNA.

Agreed. I do appreciate genshin for including Chinese voices and actually trying to promote Chinese culture some times. It's really the other games I've seen (the names escape me, but I think arkknights was one of them) where there's no Chinese VO option at all. Also lol, anime armpit feet.

Those things take time, capital and polished talents.

The emergence of Chinese publishers and game studios that can do their thing, and capitals (such as Tencent, they got especially active after they saw that they've missed the Mihoyo's Genshin Impact train...) that willing to invest, and talents to polish their skills with successive works. Previously, Chinese studios work more as outsourced workforce for foreign studios. Certainly that help to skill up along the way but still it's other people's work instead of one's own IP.

Yelan trailer dropped, I hope Hoyoverse uses 2.7 to tell a good Liyue story.

SPOILER maybe for some.

So far, I like the Archon Quest "Perilous Trails"

It introduces Yelan from Liyue as expected, and so too is Kuki Shinobu introduced well and she quickly becomes one of my favourites in the team. Itto is, well Itto :).

But the main star must be Yanfei, who is in the game for over a year now but this is her real lore debut and she is doing a wonderful job. She such a smart girl.

Also Ministry of Civil affairs seems to be the Liyue equivalent to Ministry of State Security .

Videos are raw gameplay of the first two days this quest so please proceed with caution.

Not exactly. Yelan claims to be working for Ministry of Civil Affairs but she's not on its payroll.

Sort of like James Bond has a "Commander Bond of Her Majesty's Royal Navy" but his actual payroll is with the MI6.

Yelan's actual identity is a spy that only answer to Ningguang...but even that's not her official title either, instead more akin to the scope of her work.

Guys,

I have finished the Perilous Trails Archon quest in Genshin by now and I must say, it is very well written.

It does built up on Liyue/China Lore inside its universe and answers alot of Lore questions which resonates with the community so far. We can tell that Hoyoverse storytelling proficiency has improved alot since last year, beginning with 2.0, but more prevalently since Shenhe/Jade Chamber arc from January.

I am so happy to see that a Chinese game gets global recognition because of its genually good aspects.

What blessing it is to experience authentic storytelling of a Chinese story.

Although for me, I always was afraid that Genshin turns to a ordinary JRPG style game that tries to whitewash its Chinese origin, like Ark Knights, and cringely promotes japanese "culture" (read t*ts, a**, feet, you know the stuff) ingame.

Luckily my fears did not became real.

This game is far from perfect, but it is the first and at the moment only Chinese game with global reach, telling the Chinese Story.

***SPOILER*** this is the cutscene at the end of the quest.
