As I'm sure fellow members know, we've been having issues with a particularly persistent, mentally ill cockroach here. I propose the following solution: An automated banning system whereby if a new user's posts get reported by some threshold number of users with a message containing the word "Sleepystudent", that "new" user gets automatically banned. That way, we can effectively stomp the cockroach as a community exercise without bothering the moderators.

Agreed. At least let us try it. This guy has been too much and is making going to certain threads pretty much unpalatable.

If it is abused it can always be removed and bans rescinded.

"US economy is skyrocketing."

"US can print as much money as it wants and everyone will just have to take it."

"There is no pandemic in the US"

That is why I would rather not see SleepyStudent banned.

He is such an atypical American. He believes America can do no wrong, and will succeed whatever America does.

Those talking points, are exactly what the US politician tells the US people. SleepyStudent is talking reality, no matter how weird it sounds.

Since the United States and China are locked into a real battle, then if that is United States strategy, then China is obligated to undermine it.

At this point, that is where the real debate begins.

But in this forum, at this point, the poster is banned, yet again.

To me, SleepyStudent represents elite thinking in America, and he's always banned.

Sure, there are limits to free speech, then in that light, SDF is rather weird.

The forum cannot tolerate the elite views of the American SleepyStudent, but the forum posts all types of mainstream US media articles parroting those same elite views.

At least with SleepyStudent, posters get to debate a little with him, and he usually is quite well behaved.

The articles from American media, it provokes or triggers a reaction, the wokeness kicks up, then dies down again. It is like an endless cycle.

The whole point of forums, is to learn something, and to discuss stuff. Banning SleepyStudent like this, serves no purpose other than satisfying some grievances against him.

I think an automated system would be a bit much.

Banning an IP avoiding alt on the (admittedly high) suspicion of being a well known past banned user, is already relatively unique in circumstance.
Automating it without moderator assessment of each suspected alt on a case by case basis, isn't a line we should cross IMO.

Don't we need email address and individual assessment from the site moderator to actually register an account? Just how many emails and IPs does sleepy obtain to successfully register on this site this many times? This is clearly a situation involving a persistent troll acting with bad-faith. This fact would single-handedly annul all the supposed insight, however little, peering into the distorted mind-sight of some delusional US political elite.

Just not worth it.

At some point it just becomes a repeat of the same conversations, and ends up wasting time while derailing the original conversations.

Maybe if flagging messages results in them being moved to a dedicated sleepy / cope thread the fun can continue in a way that doesn't detract from the other threads.
