Re: New LHD

A LHD of any practicality can't be any smaller and very easy to spot, so when we see a through-deck ship with an island structure on the starboard side, we'd know.
Now let's take a break...

Well there's also the indigneous carrier whcih I'm expecting to break cover this year or next too.

What will PLAN design be like, anyone willing to speculate? (If it does in fact prove true ) A Canberra class cutaway:
The Canberra is the same as the Spanish Juan Carlos, which has already launched and is at sea. Here's how she looks, and how the Aussie vessels will look:

Re: New LHD

Well there are only so many ways LHDs can look these days. Personally I've always liked the juan carlos and the canberra and I hope the PLAN consider putting in provision for a ski jump for uavs (not ucas but more CH-3 style -- smaller ones).
I personally hope it looks more like juan carlos/canberra rather than dokdo/hyuga -- and it should, considering the rumored displacement of ~25ktons.

Re: New LHD

Maybe because these ships could be very useful for countries that are going to be receiving the F-35.

Here's a good comparison of these types:

Lots of different countries already either have them or are already building them.

The LHD is more of an amphibious / fire support asset than a real "aircraft carrier". It would be essential in any amphibious operation since it can carry helicopters, attack aircraft, and infantry as well.
