The tower on the Izumo Class does not look stealthy at all, and therefore not that modern.

Its similar to the superstructure from the Akizuki class destroyers which we should consider in these modern times as a frigate.

Would be interesting to see where it will be deployed but my guess is that the 2nd will go to Qingdao and the 3rd to Zhanjiang, as in 1 north, 2 south.

Considering the existing 071s are deployed with ETC and STC, perhaps it might make more sense to post the second 075 with ETC at Ningbo where an amphibious expeditionary task force can be more readily formed with the 071s + destroyer/frigate escorts posted there?

They will get posted where the 071s are, and that's either in Qingdao or Zhanjiang. It probably has to do with a combination of factors from the command structure, to the size of the ports, to the location of PLA Marine bases.

I thought the existing fleet of 071s are currently posted with STC in Zhanjiang and with ETC in Ningbo though? Afaik NTC in Qingdao isn't home port to any 071s at the moment?

Either case there are PLANMC bases near STC (1st and 2nd Brigade in Zhanjiang), ETC (3rd in Jinjiang and 4th in Jieyang, which I get are a bit further away from Ningbo but still within the same theater command), as well as NTC (5th and 6th both near Qingdao)... and I'm sure they'll all eventually need LHD/LPDs at some point.

Yes, the NTC is not operating any type 071, nor will it operate the new type 075 either.

The intended primary operatiional area of PLAN's amphibious warfare asset is East of Fujian province and South of Hainan island.

In North East China where the NTC is operating, the only need of amphibious assets are for transporting man and metrial from Shandong province to Liaoning province in case of need to reinforce the military strength in area bordering North Korea, which is unlikely to happen in foreseeable future.

Thus the need of large amphibious ships for NTC is noy likely to materialise. Also PLA Ground Forces have their own branch of landing ship services (pennant No. LD XXXX, blue painted hulls) which are adequte for Bohai sea area. PLAGF NTC also carry out exercises with civilian LOLO ferries across the Bohai sea frequently.

NTC doesn't really need LHD or LPD. They need RO/RO dual-use ships. Check out the company

. They operate 11 scheduled ferry ships between Shandong and Liaoning. These huge RO/RO ships can carry over 200 vehicles and 2000 soldiers per ship with helicopter pad.
