They are testing everything in preparations for special stuff.

It is a first trial, and expectations for first trials are usually basic --- it floats, check, it runs, check, it steers around, check, it doesn't leak, check, the lights turn on, check... Anything else is for subsequent trials.

So the question in my mind is that are we seeing a new procedure with the PLAN, to have longer trials compressing more of the tests within that time frame, hoping to expedite the ship more quickly?

Just keep in mind that the more trials you have, where you test less stuff each time, is also more expensive. It could be that there are just less systems to check on an LHD vs a DDG or CV, so they can run through the paces more quickly and are combining what previously would have been 2-3 trials into one.

We have to keep in mind that although this ship is quite large, its not actually that sophisticated compared to 055, Shandong, SSN, or even a 054, so they might be more on a commercial standard of trialing. The ship itself isn't really leading edge technology for china anyways.

The ship has at least two new systems we have not see previously in any PLAN warship. One is the new dual sided dual banded radar on the aft mast. The other is much more subtle. A pair of ESM units in the mast is modified with a set of four panels mounted on the shelf where the ESMs are. I am not sure what the purpose of these panels, is whether they might be ESM or ECM related, or totally not related to these at all, and in which case, these can be for digital high speed communication. There are also systems I have seen similar to those used in other ships, so in terms of electronics, I would say this ship is well above that of a 054A.

I see it more as a confidence issue from the Navy of the shipyard.

They need to crank up this kind of ship to punch a hole in 1st island choking points like Miyako straits. In time of war they need to put boot on the ground and destroy missile site.
I underestimate the time to build a blue navy I though couple of decades should be done but anything but
