In Chinese it is called 两栖攻击舰 Amphibious Assault Ship. The term LHD is for the benefit of English readers as the ship's configuration and design is similar to US Navy LHD, it is an amphibious Landing warfare ship, with Helicopters as its main assets, and has a Dock for hovercraft/landing craft/assault boats/ amphibious tanks/IFV/APC.Isn't LHD a USN designation ? It doesn't really make sense to use this classification when you don't know what the ship will finally be (or will even looks like). In fact this tread classifies the class as an LHD, a LHA and an LPH.
Maybe a better solution would be to see it's Chinese classification, if the chineses use one.
From Chinese search engine Baidu.comA translation would be nice
That’s why all carriers have a SAR groupSuch a helicopter carrier can serve well to rescue shot down pilots. There have been several deployments of American helicopter carriers in the Mediterranean off the coasts of ex-Yugoslavia and North Africa to keep attack aircraft pilots morale and combat efforts at an acceptable level.
Sorry, I don't mean SAR, I mean Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel (TRAP). It is build from personal and equipment of a Marine Expeditionary Unit on board of an amphibious assault ship. That’s why all carriers have a SAR group
