I'm also rather confused at how blatant this website seems to be emulating the aesthetic, design and even name of Xavier's much more competent and credible Naval News.com website (as opposed to Naval News.net). I'm not sure which one came first, but the fact that Naval News.net has chosen to share these pictures with the implication that they are somehow "official" is rather disappointing.

Now that you mentioned it... Crap, I didn't realize that the website name is Navalnews.net. Now it's starting to sound sketchy.

I don't know if this was already discussed, but here is the improved model 054A exhibited at the Zhuhai Defense Exhibition in November 2016.

130mm gun, a lot of HQ-10, a radar that was previously seen on Hualuogeng test ship (not the two-face modern radar).

I have a feeling it may just be an inaccurate model. Even the helicopter for example is completely out of proportion with the ready of the ship

That's what I was thinking. It stood out to me. How large is that main gun (and the entire ship) if the chopper is that small lol

Type 054A is a very nice modern design reminds me of the French FFG

I also like the 2 top plate radars

overall the Type 054A is a good FFG I like it alot

That's like the 054A/P, using the same AESA radar (SR2410C) used on Bangladesh C13s, and using CM302 (YJ-12 export) instead of CM802 (YJ-83 export). I am not sure if the 054A/P choose the dual HQ-10 option or dual Type 1130 CIWS option. Interesting redesign of the aft mast.

The primary threat to the PLAN is the USN submarine force and the next gen frigate would, before anything else, be designed as an anti-submarine frigate. However, the LRASM and F-35 are also a serious threat to PLAN's surface assets, as will the USMC be after reorganizing itself as a sea-denial force and introducing new missiles that can be deployed by small teams in the first and second island chains and all around the Pacific in very large numbers.

This means the PLAN requires not just an advanced ASW frigate, but also a ship similar to the Japanese Akizuki class frigates, which is optimized for defence against mass attacks by extremely stealthy, low flying cruise missiles at medium to close ranges. The 052D is not quite suited for such a role. They need a ship which is cheaper and can carry quad-packable missiles and has tall, mast-mounted fire-control radars.

It is possible for the 054A successor to fulfil both roles. It is also possible for the ship, using CEC, to act as the shooter of long range SAMs which are then guided by other assets like 055s, 052Ds, naval AEW planes and even carrier borne fighters. This requires it to have the same VLS as the 055 and the 052D.
